Hi HubSpot community. When taking the exam, I noticed (in my opinion) that the the system’s “correct” answer to a few questions is incorrect. I have the following questions that I need answers to:
1. My understanding is that PERSONALIZATION TOKENS and PROPERTIES are the same thing…because a contact property can be inserted as a personalization token into emails and such.
Is this correct or is there a different meaning to these two words?
(because they are called both words yet contain the same variables for contacts)
2. Exam question: “When creating an email template to confirm a meeting with someone, how would you include the time the meeting was scheduled for?”
- Personalization tokens
- Fill-in-the-blank areas (system’s correct answer)
- Static text
- None of the above
This should have been PERSONALIZATION TOKENS because when we make a template, meeting time is a token that can be inserted as a TOKEN instead of a constant fill in the blank…am I wrong?

1. I can see where the misunderstanding comes from. Whilst you’re right that both hold the same values, they are not the same things. The property is the thing that stores the value, the personalisation token is the thing that is used to retrieve it. The properties have some “properties” themselves. They can have a type, i.e. to determine the type of data they hold (text, numbers, dropdown, etc.), a date they were created, . The personalisation token on the other hand, “doesn’t care” what the value type or create date is, it only takes the information from there and displays it.
2. I think the answer is in the nuance of the question. The question asks “When creating an email template to confirm a meeting with someone, how would you include the time the meeting was scheduled for?”
I think that the reason they’ve selected “fill in the blank areas” as the correct answer is because you’d be using an email template that’s created and then you need to fill in the blank.
