Hey Community!

May is mental health awareness month. Last week you heard from Scott on how he [prioritizes mental health](https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Community-Blog/A-Note-for-Mental-Health-Month/ba-p/436079), and this week we’ve opened up the floor to our Community Managers for their tips on avoiding burn out.

Check out our suggestions below, and share your own in the comments!

_I avoid burnout by taking 10 minute technology breaks after long meetings. I stand up, have a snack, drink water, or take a quick walk. In addition to mental breaks during the day, I’ll give my cat a quick cuddle during the day - that makes a huge difference on my mental health. Finally I love to get outside and walk during my lunch break, especially as the Boston weather warms up, it’s easier to enjoy the outdoors._

_I make an effort to plan out the tasks for projects that I’m working on (and block off time in my calendar to work on them). The more you manage your time, the more efficient and effective you’ll be, which helps you get more time back in the day to do the things you love._

_I take time everyday to take a walk. It allows me to stop and reflect on what I am doing. And I get a little exercise to boot. I also create a to do list and do a weekly brain dump. I’ve learned to use the to do list and trust it - getting all of those ideas and tasks out of my head and onto paper (digital or not) creates space in my head to be creative, and I have less stress about forgetting what needs to be done._

_I unplug when I can and meditate or listen to my favorite song. I close my eyes and remove myself from what is stressing me and weighing me down. If even for a few moments, it makes a difference._

_Taking walks and going out in nature helps me too._

_Unplug when you can, even if it’s for a few minutes and do something you enjoy. Something that makes you happy. Make a list of your triggers as well as small activities you can do to help you find joy._

_Setup “you” time during the day. Whether it’s 15 minutes to play with your cat or a 30 minute walk outside. Put it in your calendar and stick to it._

_I’ve been making gym appointments at the end of my business hours so that I have to close my laptop and go out. It’s too easy to extend the working time if you’re working from home, so planning something for the end of the day has been helping me to disconnect from work and focus on something else!_

_Practice kindness - not only to others, but also to yourself. It’s okay if you don’t finish everything on your to-do list by the end of the day - some things take longer and tomorrow is another day._

_It’s easy to get stuck staring at a computer screen all day and forget to go outside, let alone talk to a human in person! I try to find small ways throughout the day to prioritize my mental health and ensure I don’t become a zoom zombie. Whether that means taking advantage of a free hour on my calendar to go for a walk, blocking time on my calendar to get through my tasks before the end of the day, or facetiming with friends and family after work for a few minutes, I try to keep a balancing of finding moments to recharge during the day._

_Working out right after work or just going out for a quick ten minutes walk and listening to music allows me to really switch off from the work day and start the rest of the evening, especially when working from home. Don’t eat lunch at your desk! I also use micro breaks of a few minutes between large chunks of work during the day so that my brain can more easily switch from one to the other._
