Native Ecommerce for HubSpot — Would You Use It?

Hi everyone!

I’m exploring an idea and would really appreciate your honest feedback.

I’m considering building a fully featured native ecommerce platform for HubSpot - something on the level of Shopify or WooCommerce, but built directly inside the HubSpot ecosystem.

Not a simplified or limited plugin - but a complete ecommerce engine with all the core functionality you’d expect from major platforms.

Some key advantages:

• Zero transaction fees - completely eliminated
• Deep, native integration with CRM, automation, emails, workflows, reporting
• Faster management (everything in one place, no platform juggling)
• Full control over the customer journey inside HubSpot

Before starting development, I want to understand the real demand.

Would a full-scale native ecommerce solution inside HubSpot be useful for you or your clients?
What features would you expect to match Shopify/WooCommerce-level functionality?
Do you feel this is something the ecosystem is currently missing?

Any feedback - supportive or skeptical - is super helpful.

We don't plan to charge customers anything on transactions in addition to standard banking fees.

Interesting question, and honestly a brave one to ask publicly. I’ve seen this conversation come up many times with clients and partners, especially as HubSpot has matured beyond “just CRM” into something closer to an operating system.

The short answer is yes, there is demand, but it’s very segmented. In 2025 allow me to be a bit blunt: most teams don’t actually want a Shopify-killer inside HubSpot. What they want is fewer moving parts, less reconciliation, and cleaner data between commerce and CRM. Shopify and WooCommerce already do ecommerce extremely well, and matching their depth across catalog management, payments, tax, fulfillment, extensions, and global edge cases is a massive lift.

Where this idea gets genuinely interesting is if the product is opinionated and HubSpot-first. Things like CRM-native orders, subscriptions that fully respect lifecycle stages, workflows that trigger off revenue events without glue code, and reporting that doesn’t feel bolted on. That’s where HubSpot still feels fragmented today, even with Commerce Hub and Payments evolving.

Zero transaction fees will get attention, but I suspect that won’t be the deciding factor for serious merchants. Reliability, extensibility, and ecosystem compatibility matter more long-term. People will ask quickly: how do refunds work, how do webhooks behave at scale, what’s the extension model, how do agencies customize it without breaking upgrades?

One more thing I’d pressure-test is who this is really for. SMBs often want speed and familiarity, which Shopify already wins on. Mid-market teams inside HubSpot tend to want tighter control, simpler stacks, and fewer sync issues rather than “more features.” If you anchor the product around commerce as CRM-native data, not just storefronts, you might find a much clearer wedge.

Curious to see where you take this. These are the right questions to ask before writing code.
