Trouble with blog posts

Hi Everyone

I am into this stating a webpage, landing page email base and blog but I am struggeling with my blog posts. First of all I am not the most knowledgable person when it comes to this .

So my problem is that I have blogpages and they show a box on the right side bar with recent blog posts but when I publish them there is on the the title "recent posts" but no content ??

and in edit it just will not let me change anything . the Edit symbol is blocked
If anybody could help to point me to what I missed or did wrong and where and how to solve this ? THANKS

Hi @1102 happy to help with the blog posts - this depends on whether you have more than one post published, to see other posts on your first blog there would need to have subsequent blogs published (otherwise there's nothing to display).

There's also likely a setting in your blog post template where you can adjust the settings, can you share a screenshot of the edit symbol you said was blocked.

Hi, Yes of course I have 10 posts written already , that is why I said they show in my post when editing or working on it but as soon as I publish they are not displayed . And as I said the editing part is blocked in my page when Im working on it so NO i can not edit it.
Any suggestions?

Hi @1102 can you share a link to your blog so I can check what theme you're using? That will help me guide you to the right settings and better understand what's going on here.

From the blog post editor, if you click the sidebar to see contents, can you share a screenshot of the modules on the page:

Here is the screen shot of the window , when I try to push the "edit pen" symbole it show me the message that this move is not possible.

also above the blog post list , ther is a section " the reader more " which still has the default text. which I can not edit either.

the problem is that I do not know how to change the template either. I tried but there was not change at all

Hi @1102 thank you for all of the additional info and screenshots.

Your blog template is using an "old" coded template, it's not part of a theme that can be modified via the drag and drop editor.

There are two options - have a developer review/update the coded template file or choose a theme from the marketplace and change your blog templates to have more flexibilty to edit.

I'm still not sure why the recent posts aren't displaying, it could be something broken in the code for that module.

well it's just me , I don't have a developer. And I just used the templates available on HubSpot. Yes it looks ugly and is very limited it available use possibilities.

no idea what to do with that . Since it does not even let me change templates for the blog part , the only other idea I had was completely delete it and start from scratch but that is such a loss of time and work.

Hi @1102 it looks like you're using the default Growth theme - what's confusing me is that the contents (modules on the page in your screenshot) don't match what I can see when using Growth theme:

I'm not able to recreate the issues you're having with editing, it must be an older version of the template.

How recently did you create the blog?

The good news with blog templates is that you can swap out the theme for your blog listing and blog post templates without having to redo a lot of work, other than applying your branding to the theme.

Let me know if you'd like help finding a theme / updating the blog templates - without a developer, there won't be much you can do to fix the tempaltes you're currently using (and it's not worth the trouble with so many themes that have more flexible blog layouts/options)

Hi Jennifer,
I just had started creating the blog posts on the 22nd of April so only a bit more then a week, and I tried to switch templates before but it had seemed like I was frozen in that particular basic template. So I picked another one and switched again, it seems that this time it worked.

But on that blog list page it is still that old style, but at least the blog pages look nicer and more presentable.
If you could point me to : how to switch the templace for the blog list page, that would be much appreachiated.

Also I dont know how to send those blog posts as emails to subscriber.

@1102 it's possible that you only changed the blog post template and not the blog listing page template, here's a quick loom video to show how to change the blog listing template - you have to make sure you publish at the end.

yes I tried to edit the template , no chance all the edit options are blocked .
As you can see on the screen shot. And I switched the template but for some reason it has no effect on the editing ability 😞

Jennifer I changed the theme twice again and it at least let me remove the top block section when it says,m say something to your users ...or something like that , whcih I was not able to edit 😞 , but it still will not show the recent posts .

So i am out of ideas.

Thanks for the video, that was helpfull to get faster to it, because I am working on 3 different platforms for 3 differnet businesses and it gets confusing and timecosuming at times.
But if you ahev an idea what the problem with the recent post list section ton the top tight side could be , Im all ears 🙂

@1102 I would recommend downloading a free theme from the marketplace here - I've filtered to include only those with blog templates.

I'm not sure why you can't edit the growth theme - especially since you just created the blog, the only other possibility is if the HS account is older and only has access to a different version of the theme.

Once you have a free theme, you can configure the settings and have more control.

It might be worth creating a free CMS developer sandbox where you can download several different themes to test out what will work best before installing in the account for this business.
