Just found out HubSpot’s legacy Quotes tool - the one that’s been part of Sales Starter for ages – is now gone for new users.

They’ve replaced it with their shiny new “AI-powered CPQ” that’s only available if you’re on Commerce Hub Professional or above. Sounds fancy, right? Until you realise what that actually means…

Every salesperson now needs a Commerce Hub seat, which starts at around £77/month per user. So if you’ve got a small sales team, suddenly your quoting process costs hundreds a month for something that used to just… come with Sales Starter.

For anyone planning to use the Customer Platform Starter suite, this stings even more - because the old quotes tool was simple, built-in, and perfect for small teams that didn’t need anything fancy.

Now?..
If you create a new HubSpot account today, you can’t even access legacy quotes unless you’re on the Commerce Professional plan.

Existing users might still see legacy quotes (for now..), but new users are out of luck.

If you see the message about “AI-powered quotes” and a “Legacy quotes” button, you can still click through… unless, of course, you’ve been assigned a Commerce Hub seat - then you lose access to Legacy quote entirely.

Honestly, it feels like HubSpot has taken one of the most useful, simple tools for small teams and shoved it behind an Enterprise paywall.

Not cool.

I understand your frustration for this change. I'm passing this along to our product team so they're aware of how this is impacting the community.

I absolutely agree with this - it was hard enough getting the team to adopt the process and to now discover that we may have to find an alternative is infuriating.

There's no way I'd pay an extre £3000+ pa for a feature that's both limited and that used to be free. We're a small team and don't need the bells and whistles of a commerce seat.

It's also concerning that you build business processes around Hubspot to try and drive better engagement and then features effectively get withdrawn with no recourse.

We are HubSpot Partners and this change has MAJORLY impacted almost ALL of our clients in a VERY negative way!!! Quoting is a daily activity for salespeople!! They rely on the quoting tools inside HubSpot as much as they count on the phone and email. I have been told that they replaced the per transaction costs by creating the "commerce seats" in order to help reduce costs and improve budgeting. BUT I believe that HubSpot really missed the mark on this one because Quoting does NOT equal Payments!!! Almost ALL of our clients have been using the quoting tools but process payments outside of HubSpot. Now in order for a salesperson to be able to use the Quoting tool they have to have BOTH a Sales and a Commerce!! Which is VERY expensive, especially at the full enterprise level! This is a HORRIBLE business altering change!!!

Jaycee, I am happy to also weigh in here. This is a super disruptive change!!! That will potentially be business altering for many of our clients and our partnership as well. Sales people quote daily!!! They need access to those tools for any CRM to be practical for them. Without being able to quote INSIDE the CRM, it is practically worthless to a salesperson. Please feel free to reach out to me for examples and feedback.

Discovered it today after I told a friend that he can create quotes in Starter....
To put it politely - I'm not amused at all by such a massive change.

I understand that CPQ & Commerce Hub are the shiny new kids on the block.

Don't get me wrong, they are great... For Professional and Enterprises, for small teams on Starter completely useless (that's why there's no Commerce Starter).
But forcing people into Commerce Hub Pro who just want to send quotes - come on HubSpot... Such changes won't earn you medals.

A question/request for the product team:
Why not keeping the legacy quote tool for starters until you decide to create a Commerce Hub Starter?

Furthermore, I'm startng to wonder how many different HubSpot versions/configurations there currently are.
I mean, it doesn't feel like a "siloed" build anymore(which was a good thing imo) where you can rely on the tier you get.

Years ago (I'd say, before AI hit the broader audience) it was like "You get a certain tier and you know what you'll get", now it's like "Oh, you're getting a certain tier after a certain date - sorry friend, this feature requires a different Hub/tier now. But the portal you've created before this date will still be able to use it".

I'm just wondering if this is even efficient in terms of development and maintenance.
