Subscription start date in the past

We want to use subscription as a method to easily track active subscriptions and ARR.

On renewal, our customers will frequently complete contracting a day or two after the new billing period, which is fine, we just invoice from the start date.

Unfortunately, we cannot put an accurate start date for their subscription because it will not allow us to put the date in the past.

Is there any workaround or planned fix for this?

Yes, this is a known issue with the current default Subscriptions object which will hopefully be addressed in the near future.

The only workaround we have, which we have now implemented in 3 client portals, is that we build a custom Subscriptions object instead of using the default object that is currently bundled in the data model as part of Commerce Hub. By setting up a custom object, we have complete control and so that has been our only choice to ensure accurate historical data.

Hopefully the idea posted here will be upvoted and picked up by the product team at some point. I'm guessing there are technical reasons/limitations as to why the dev team set things up this way. When migrating old data, you usually pause subscriptions in the old system and set up new ones in HubSpot with a fresh start date.
