Workflow to enroll contacts to a sequence

Hi there,

I created a workflow to enroll contacts to a sequence. But I've heard from some HS users that it is no appropriate if I'm using personalization tokens. I tested and it worked, but I am concerned. Is it safe to use a workflow to enroll contacts to a sequence if the sequence contains personalization tokens?

@ABrazCosta can you clarify what you were warned about? what is the concern - that the personalization tokens in the sequence won't be updated?

Are the same properties in the sequence being used in the workflow? I've not heard of any conflict, will do some digging to see what I can find.

Can you share more details about the workflow triggers and actions? as well as the personalization tokens used in the sequences?

Could the workflow change the status of the contact that would make them unenroll from the sequence?

Personalization should work fine. There are however things to keep in mind:

Make sure the sequence emails don't contain any placeholders.
Make sure that emails don't contain any personalization tokens besides tokens from contact and (primary) company.

What is the concern why it would not be safe?

The only thing I would keep in mind that contacts that are being enrolled in the workflow actually have values for whatever personalisation tokens you are using in the sequence emails.

This is the reason: Token Value at Enrollment: Personalization tokens will populate with the contact property value at the time of enrollment. Any changes to the contact property values after enrollment will not be reflected in the email.

Please note: if you use personalization tokens in your email templates, any changes made to the contact record's property values after the contact is enrolled will not appear in the email. The token will populate with whatever the contact property value was at the time the contact was enrolled. To make sure the token populates with the most up-to-date property value, learn how to edit a scheduled email for an individual contact.

It is not recommended to use personalization tokens in sequences that are added by workflows. Here's why:

Placeholder Tokens: You can't set the token value before contact enrollment, meaning emails will be sent with the placeholder text.
Token Value Updates: Any changes made to contact record's property values after enrollment will not appear in the email. The token will populate with the property value at the time of enrollment.
