We have developed a solution which helps forecast turnover rather than orders received. HubSpot does a not bad job of this if you're using line items but this can sometimes get complicated.

This used to need custom objects to be able to create monthly billing amounts automatically and then report on them. However, with the event of the new template library you can rep purpose the services object to do the same thing with just a professional license rather than needing enterprise for custom objects.

You can read about it here: https://www.wellmeadow.co.uk/case-study-revenue-forecasting-using-hubspot

It does need an API triggered by a workflow web hook, but it is all doable.

If you'd like to discuss further, then please message me.

I am running in to an issue getting Hubspot reporting to work the way it should.

When I generate a forecast, an amount will show up on a close date based in the future, which is fine. The challenge is, even if the line item ends in 3 months, the chart doesn't reflect the revenue stopping. The revenue amount just keeps increasing as new deals land on the report.

Hi @wsblack

Recurring revenue is generally assumed to continue after the expiration of a contract in most CRM's. If you have line items that terminate in three months, I would treat them as non-recurring, or one-time revenue, paid in installments.

I'm not an accountant, but unless your books are cash basis from a bookkeeping perspective I think you would accrue the full amount up-front in such cases anyway, so your revenue forecast should be accurate with this recorded as a lump sum.

I hope this is helpful.

Thank you. That is indeed helpful. What we are attempting to do is accurately reflect a month to month revenue projection to senior management. We have projects that are ongoing and some that go for several months. reporting all of that in a single number would not work on a monthly report.
