I've been onboarding Hubspot with the company for less than a year and I need to help my segments track their target accounts. Hubspot's Target Accounts tool appears to be very limited.

The Dashboard has few filters which makes running a segment meeting difficult when teams/owners are not easily definable by standard properties.

The Dashboard is only visible to sales seat members.

Buyer Role seems pretty central to the dashboard's usefulness, but it's not likely to be used by my segments (where BD is only 50% of their role).

It seems to me a custom object with a pipeline and a few handy custom properties would do better for tracking progress with target accounts and seeing activities.

I could use Hubspot's Target Accounts 'Yes/No' field to trigger record creation and copy data from company record.

Associating contact/deal records to the new custom record might be difficult without custom code/app.

Maybe we only use it for the pipeline, which can be progressed through company record activities. Based on custom lifecycle stage values. But it will provide a visual for reviewing each account's status at regular meetings.

My plan was just Company record saved views for reviewing status, but the pipeline is a much better visual.

How are people tracking Target Accounts with or without the Hubspot tool?

TIA

Re: Target Accounts - Custom Object

Hi @MARTY5000

Thanks for crafting your problem statement with a clear and concise narrative that effectively conveys the challenges you're facing and the solution you need to track target accounts in HubSpot.

To effectively track target accounts in HubSpot, we recommend starting by evaluating your specific needs, including the level of detail required, collaboration needs, and desired visualizations.

Consider starting with a simple approach, using saved views on company records with custom properties for basic tracking, before exploring more complex solutions.

Research HubSpot apps that offer target account management features aligning with your needs, listing few for your reference

Account-Based Marketing by HubSpot (Free)

Hierarchies by HubSpot (Free)

Leadfeeder for HubSpot (Paid)

6sense Account Engagement (Paid):

Then if a custom object is the best solution, weigh the development effort and potential use of a HubSpot development partner.

By understanding these approaches, you can choose the best method for your organization.

In addition, consider automating tasks related to target accounts using workflows and create custom reports using HubSpot's reporting features to include data from your target account custom object.

By implementing these strategies, you can establish a more effective target account tracking system, tailored to your organization's specific requirements in the near term.

Hope this helps - Happy to help further!!
Thank you very much and have a great one!
Warm regards
