Hi @JPadgett7,

Custom objects are indeed the best approach here.

Firstly, they allow you to keep track of goods sold beyond just a simple field like a single line text or a drop-down which would force you to flatten information. One or even multiple fields on a company or deal can typically not sufficiently describe the complexity of objects like your sold goods. A custom object record would give you the ability to document the type, servicing dates, store notes, tasks, communication.

Secondly, by using custom objects you're not as limited when it comes to how many sold goods you want to associate. Instead of a one-to-one relationship when storing goods information on a company record, you can associate dozens, hundreds of sold goods to a company as custom object records without running into issues when it comes to organising, categorising, filtering goods.

Thirdly, custom object automation will likely speed up some of your data entry and processes.

Lastly, it's easier to report on custom object records than having this information stored inside a company record.

You're on the right track.

Best regards!

Hello,

My company sells cellular connected padlock devices, and I am looking for a way to keep track of devices associated in the specific deals, and the total devices associated to a company.

The reason that this is important to keep track of is that each device is quite expensive, and there is a software subscription associated to each device. When a device is serviced or needs to be replaced, our clients can return a device and get a replacement. We would then take that device, refurbish, and send it out to a different company. Each device has a unique number that identifies the device.

What I'm looking to be able to do is keep track of all devices currently owned by our clients and the current devices we have in inventory. Is the best way to do this with custom objects
