Internal Values Formatting

I'm looking for guidance on the formatting of internal values for properties. I have a mix of all of the formatting on my properties. I do remember reading that internal values need to look like this, INTERNAL_VALUE but I can't find what I read on that and I wanted to know if anyone knows the reason for the all caps and no spaces.

Can internal values look like this:
internal_value

internal value

Internal Value

Or are internal values supposed took like this:
INTERNAL_VALUE

Hi @SWandell7

HubSpot will automatically format a Property Label (e.g. Temporary Order ID) to a Property Name, or Internal Name (e.g. temporary_order_id) by making everything lower case and swapping spaces, or punctuation with an underscore "_".

So, using your example, that would be "internal_name".

Once the Internal Name is set it cannot be changed. But, you can change the Label.

So when I have a long property name I will use a short label to create the Internal name, then edit the Label to make it more self explanatory. For example in our CRM we have a Propety "Is a HubSpot Partner Agency" so I created a property "Is Partner" which created the Internal name "is_partner" then I edited the Label to "Is a HubSpot Partner Agency".

Thanks, Mike - would you suggest that I re-create properties that are not currently set up with the internal value as 'internal_value'?

Hi @SWandell7

It's a significant amount of work to rename the properties, especially if your properties have values.

If you have a new, clean portal then maybe it's worth the effort.

Only developers will see the Propety Names, most Users will see the Property Labels which are easy to edit.
