Associations Best Practice - Distributor and Sales Reps

I have a question regarding best practice for distributors and sales reps.

Right now we have "Distributor" and "Sales Channel" set up as custom fields for Deals. But with Associations, we can now add those companies to the deal that way so have been doing both.

Which way would be best? We'd use mainly for reporting. If best to use both, that's fine too.

At the end of the day, we need correct reporting for the data. Try generating reports for both ways and check which gives you the proper reporting go for that. Anyways you should always have to associate the deals with some contact or company. So in my opinion, that will be the best.

In the Custom Report Builder, you can pre-filter an entire report for an association:

When selecting filters and fields, you can also reference the Association label:

If you have any reporting needs that go beyond this, you would have to maintain your custom properties, especially if you want to report on distributor and sales channel separately. The Association label would not allow you to visualize distributor by sales channel or sales channel by distributor.

This is all a bit abstract, so I'd recommend creating the reports you'd like to have and see how far you get with association labels. They're definitely a feature that HubSpot is focusing on a lot right now.

Thank you! We would want a Deals report on distributor and sales channel separately.

We're still new to HubSpot so haven't dived into reporting yet but you make a great point, I should use both until we see which makes sense.
