Importing historic deals with line items

While attempting to import historical deals with associated line items I discovered there isn't a valid Knowledge Base to accomplish this. I did attempt the method described in Sample import files, but it didn't work. With the help of HubSpot Support, we were able to determine a new way of importing deals with line items.

Why include line items?

Our client wanted to see historical sales data by products

Initial errors?

Deals and new line items sample spreadsheet (with associated products) : CSV. When importing in one file, you can only import one line item per deal.

Deals and new line items in two files: in these sample files, Deal name is the unique key for the Deal object. When importing in two files, you can import multiple line items per deal.
- Deals sample spreadsheet: CSV.
- Line items sample spreadsheet (with associated products): CSV.

The one-file method wouldn't work for multiple line items, and the two-file method was not associating the line items to the deals.

Here are the steps I used to successfully import deals with line items.

1. Import deal to line file(see example file)

2. Export the deal to line file with the deal 'Record ID'

3. Associate the deal 'Record ID' to the deal name in the line to deal file

4. On the line to deal file(see example file), the 'Product ID' is actually the 'Record ID' of the product, not the SKU OR the Store Product ID

5. On the line to deal file, update the 'Term' to the appropriate ISO-8601. Monthly = 'P1M'

6. Import the line to deal file as a deal and line item import with ONE list. Remap for line items and deals as needed.

As an additional note.... the HubSpot provided example of deal to line file DOES NOT include close date or deal owner. These would be very helpful when uploading historical deals.
