Document View Tracking, all visitors showing as "Someone"

We've just sent out several hundered emails sharing a key document with a group of VIP B2B partners. The vast majority (perhaps all?) of them were not already entered into Hubspot, and we used the outlook plugin to add the contacts as we went.

We can see now that 250 people have clicked through to view the document, but everyone is showing up as "Someone" instead of their email or their name. Would love if *someone* could explain why and how to avoid this in the future lol.

Also, since hubspot is tracking how much time each person spends per page, is there a way to view the overall average time spent per page, or to access valuable data like which pages people exited from, or how many page views each page got? Seems like there must be, but I'm totally a novice here.

Thanks!

Hey @JMielke, Happy Monday!

This happens because HubSpot requires contacts to be cookied or tracked via a known email address. Since most recipients weren’t in HubSpot before, the system couldn’t associate their activity with an identity.

To avoid this, you can use tracked links or ensure contacts are properly logged before they engage.

I hope this information helps,

Thanks Pam! I had a feeling that might be it.

Do you have any input on the second part of my question - if there's a way to view the overall average time spent per page in a document, or to access valuable data like which pages people exited from, or how many page views each page got?

Thanks!
