Hi @Stacks42,

At this stage, it's not possible to force deal creation through a lead and not simply create a deal directly. While there a pipeline rules, they would only allow for limiting deal creation to specific stages – which would still mean a user could create deals directly and ignore leads.

I think this is a valid concern and I agree that there should be a setting for this. You could request a setting from the product team that only allows deal creation through leads by submitting a post in the HubSpot Ideas section of the community: https://community.hubspot.com/t5/HubSpot-Ideas/idb-p/HubSpot_Ideas

The product team reviews these requests based on their popularity.

(If you want to update the lifecycle stage of the contact record based on where the associated lead or deal sits, that can be easily done.)

Best regards!

Hey all,

I have been trying to come up with a way to solve this problem... we have automations in place to set up MQLs and an associated lead in the lead object, so the sales guys can work the lead and qualify it. How can I make it so they don't just bypass qualifying the lead and setting up an opportunity? My worry is that unfinished leads will just be sitting out there that are never completed.

One thing I thought about is that there is an SQL lead stage, and that automates to update the lifecycle stage on the Contact Record. Currently, the SQL Lead Stage is a manual select, and comes right before Open Deal. Maybe I can automate it so an opportunity cannot be created unless the contact is in the SQL Lifecycle stage or after?

Good feedback. I just noticed this because the lead doesn't associate to the deal a lot of times, and one would probably want to tie these together. Lead association isn't available when creating a deal... yet.
