Hi HubSpot Community,

I want to get notified if a sales colleague creates a line item in a deal using a price lower than the list price. IMO, the sales college can do that in 2 ways:

Discounting (either using absolute or percentage discounts) the line item.

Overwriting the unit price of the line item.

From my understanding I can easily enroll deals in a workflow and catch option 1 from above with the following trigger:

Deal is associated to "Any Line Item"

And associated line item has all of: Calculated Total Discount is greater than 0

However, how do I catch Option 2?

I cannot check if the list price was overwritten

I cannot compare the list price with the set price

As a workaround, I can check if the the margin is smaller then a fixed value but cannot check if the margin is smaller than a percentage value (which would also solve my problem)

Any recommendations?

Hi @ESander! Welcome to the Community-- happy to have you here 😊

I want to invite some subject matter experts to see if they have any suggestions.

Hey @ChrisoKlepke, @ScottPennwood, @HubSpot_Corey do you have any thoughts on how we might be able to automate a notification of a manual price change on line items?

Do you have the ability to run custom code actions? If so, the idea would be

a) detect a line item change

b) execute code action: using the line item SKUs pull up the corresponding product using the client API. Then compare the line item price (or check given discount) to the base line product.

The rub comes in a) actually. How do you detect the line item change. More difficult than it seems. There is no direct trigger you can put on line items. By proxy, you can detect changes to deal properties that track some line item properties - like Total Contract Value, or # of associated line items. But if the change made doesn't affect those surrogate fields, then you won't know (trigger won't take place). Like a billing start date change, or in your case perhaps the unit price/discount is changed but the end net price/tcv is the same.

If in your use case you don't care about edits, but rather just the initial line item creation phase, then you should be able to have a deal based workflow and trigger on "# of associated line items" since that will have changed when a user adds line items.
