How to require an update to a company property as a pipeline stage requirement

I want to require that a custom company record be updated as a pipeline stage requirement, but all I can add are deal properties. How can I accomplish this?

As far as workarounds go, the best would currently be to create a deal property corresponding to your company property, making this deal property required and using a workflow to copy entered value to the associated company object.
