Use Line Item custom fields in Quote Template

Hi,

We created a custom text field in Line Item object. We want to use it in the quotes template to display the Payment Terms (Immediate, Net 30, Net 60, Net 90, etc).

I don't see the option when I customize the quote template, to add the custom field. Or can we add any other dropdown select field to display it?

Modifying the default options in the line_items_table can be a bit tricky, as the default theme is locked by HubSpot. Fortunately, there's a way around this. It may appear daunting at first, but is actually quite simple. There's an old post here where sskias-ink outlines the process. But as the post is a bit outdated and lacks some steps, I'll post the step by step instructions below.

1. Go to the Design Manager. The easiest way to get there is to simply search for it and open it under the "Apps" subsection.

2. Navigate to @hubspot> cms-quotes-theme.

3. Right click and clone the theme.

4. Name the theme and press create.

5. This will automatically load to the cloned folder. Navigate to Modules>line_items_Table.

6. On the right side, under fields, look for Select "column property (choice)" and select edit.

7. Scroll down and select Add another choice.

8. Fill in the required fields. Label is what you want the title of the field to be and value is the Internal Name.

8.1 If you don't know the internal name you can find it by navigating to edit properties in your settings, and if you select edit on the property you want to add, simply select the <> to show the internal name.

9. In the top right select publish changes.

10. Navigate to Settings ⚙️ > Data Management > Quotes > Customize quote template.

11. Choose your theme and style. Hubspot will automatically show a version of your new template for each style. You can identify your version by looking at the subtitle.

12. Your custom property should now show in the line items table menu.

I'm wanting to use this for a value from a date picker field, but the data that shows on the quote document is a a random sequence of numbers. Is there any way to resolve this?

Hi @AEarle ,

This happens as HubSpot actually stores there values as a Unix timestamp, so the 'random' numbers you're seeing is actually these values. To get this to display properly you need to tell the HTML how to handle it. To do this in the main code simply search for:

item.column_property == '

Then we need to add a section telling the code how to handle this new column value. To do that underneath a </td> simply insert:

{% elif item.column_property == 'NAMEOFPROPERTYHERE' %} <td class="{{ cell_print_max_width_class|escape_attr }}"> {% if property_value %} {{ (property_value/1000)|int|format_date('long', 'UTC', LOCALE)|sanitize_html }} {% endif %} </td>

where NAMEOFPROPERTYHERE is the value (not the label of the property).

This will then display the date appropriately on your quote as shown below in "Testing Column"

@HubSpot_Corey I've tried to implement your solution for two date properties (from_date and to_date), but I don't see anything in the quote (I did see the Unix timestamp before adding the code to the line item template file). The code I used is the following (after the name & description block):

Hope you’re doing well.

I came across this reply from 2024 regarding displaying custom line item properties on CPQ quotes and wanted to check if you might be able to help with an updated perspective.

We’re currently using the newer CPQ quotes experience (with some beta features). Because our portal was created more recently, we don’t seem to have full access to CPQ customization in the same way as portals with legacy quotes.

We followed the exact steps from this reply: cloning the cpq_quote_theme, updating the column selections, and publishing it. However, when we go to Settings → Objects → Quotes to edit the quote template, there’s no option to select our cloned theme.

From what we can tell, portals created after September 2025 no longer have the ability to switch CPQ quote themes, and this capability appears to be limited to portals that previously had access to legacy quotes.

Our goal is simply to display custom line item properties in the quote line items table, as shown in your original example. Since your response was from 2024, I wanted to check:

Is this approach now limited to legacy quotes only?
Is there any supported workaround or alternative today to surface custom line item properties in the new CPQ quotes experience?

Any insight you could share would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, that's the closest I've been to a solution.

My problem is that for the timestamp 1769558400000 it translates it to January 21st, 1970.

In fact, any date I enter gets translated to that day in 1970.

I can't figure out the solution. Does anyone see it clearly? Thank you so much!

In the reply you can see how the Unix timestamp is handled. The 1970 date usually means the value is already being converted, so when you also divide it by 1000, it resolves to epoch time.

As Corey’s approach suggests, remove the /1000 from this line and keep the rest exactly the same:

{{ property_value|format_date('long', 'UTC', LOCALE) }}

Also make sure the NAMEOFPROPERTYHERE matches the line item property internal name, not the label.

This adjustment should fix your issue. Let me know if you need anything else!
