Which WhatsApp 3rd party app is the right one for you?

Hi HubSpotters 👋

Many of you are either using or looking for a WhatsApp app to integrate with HubSpot.
I'm a WhatsApp expert and have seen many businesses not knowing how to choose the right WhatsApp app or choosing the wrong one.

Here are 3 important factors I wish more businesses and HubSpot partners knew (#1 will save you from a lot of headache, money):

1. The 3rd party app must run on the WhatsApp Business Platform/API.

Many businesses don't know this unfortunately or learn about it too late when their WhatsApp account is banned permanently.

Using the WhatsApp Business Platform/API is the only authorized and safe way to integrate WhatsApp with HubSpot, run automations on WhatsApp and send bulk messages.

Not using the API goes againts WhatsApp's Terms of Service and you can have your business account banned permanently.

TLDR; WhatsApp bans ~ 2 million accounts per month for unauthorized usage and in some cases takes legal actions against businesses and 3rd party providers that don't use the WhatsApp Business API.

What are some of the WhatsApp apps in the marketplace that are compliant with WhatsApp's Terms of Service?

BotSpace

2. The 3rd party app must serve all of your use cases.

Make a list of all of your current use cases and the ones you could need in the future. Before choosing a 3rd party app, check if and how they serve your use cases. Here's some example:

HubSpot's native WhatsApp integration:
Great if you need a team inbox, wanna broadcast one-off messages, and don't need complex automations for lead qualification, lead nurturing and similar use cases.
Rasayel:
For sales use cases and businesses that need a team inbox, wanna automate sending one-off messages (like reminders) as well as automate back-and-forth WhatsApp communications like (lead qualification, answering FAQs, lead follow-ups and nurturing), talk to customers on WhatsApp from HubSpot, automatic logging of WhatsApp chats on the HubSpot contact and deal page
Wati and BotSpace:
For businesses that need to automate sending one-off messages (reminders, notifications) through HubSpot workflows

3. Try their support and try their support more

Many of the apps allow a free trial. Make use of that and get help from their support as much as possible. Even great tools can have not-so-great support and it's important to know it before you commit.

Thanks for all this info..checking my understanding here:

Hubspot Native Integration
This requires a Whatsapp Business number:

CONS

Number can only be used with the WBAPI on the Hubspot platform and not also be in use on a mobile device (so team have to handle messaging in Hubspot)
Connecting up a number that you had been using on a mobile and moving it to Hubspot means you lose all the messaging history
You can't send a whatsapp new thread from conversations/contact.

PROS
There are no meta messaging charges
You don't need a WAB API platform such as Twilio to power this

SUMMARY

So to set up and trial this out you really need a dedicated WB number that hasn't been in use elsewhere

Many third-party CRM apps get integrated with your WhatsApp API. Some of the popular ones commonly used are Shopify, Zoho, Zapier, Tally, Pabbly, and much more. For me, it becomes much easier to connect with my WhatsApp API BSP(Business Solution Provider) DoubleTick. They get these tools integrated easily

Great overview - just wanted to add another option for a use case that is not fully covered above.

The apps listed here are excellent for conversational messaging (team inboxes, chatbots) and broadcast/notification use cases. But there is a gap when it comes to structured data collection inside WhatsApp itself.

For example, if you need to send a customer a booking confirmation form, a feedback survey, a lead qualification questionnaire, or an onboarding checklist - and you need the answers back in HubSpot as structured field values (not free-text chat messages) - that is what Flowella does.
