Restricting Deal Stage Progression Based on Property Values

Hi HubSpot Community,

I'm looking to enhance our process by ensuring certain deal properties are updated before a deal can move to the next stage. Specifically, I want to restrict the progression of deals to the next stage unless a particular deal property (or properties) has been updated or contains specific values.

Is there a setup within HubSpot that allows for this kind of conditional control over deal stage progression? If so, could you guide me on how to implement this, or point me towards any resources or workflows that could assist?

Hi @LPiga

You can easily do this via so called conditional deal stage properties:

Navigate to the settings of the pipeline you want to edit.
In the row of a stage, hover over the Conditional stage properties column and click Edit properties.
In the dialog box, select the checkboxes next to any new properties you want to appear.

You can select most deal properties (read only system properties are not available) and can make these mandatory. That means users can't move deals into specific stages without these properties having values.

Hi Karsten, is there a way to restrict deal stage progression based on the value of a specific property?

For example, I have a property on my Deal "Is Associated to a Company" with values True and False. This property is set by a workflow, and users' permission is view only.

I want to restrict users from progressing a deal through stages if the value of this property is False.

Is there a way to do this?

@OtterEnergy if the property is set to view only for users, and set by workflows – then you're already 99% of the way there. Simply set it as a required stage property and it'll block a deal from progressing if users cannot set it manually and if it doesn't have a value. (You would simply have to make sure that it's empty, instead of false.)
