Update:

I have been looking around and cannot find a way to automatically tell Hubspot when to apply the association label 'Inactive'. How do I tell Hubspot in a workflow to which company to apply it to? In a perfect scenario it would let you apply that label to the contact if one of the companies is not labeled as their primary.

'Apply Inactive on the contact's company association if the company is not the contact's primary company' This is basically what I want the workflow to do.

I did the above manually for the example

Any tips on that Tom?

Hi everyone,

We recently started using Apollo and are looking into assigning people to the right companies, since we all know people can switch jobs.

It sadly becomes a mess when you want to do this since the old association stays intact, so the contacts that change jobs can still be prospected through their old company record and get the wrong emails.

We want to automatically delete the association of the old company when a contact's job has been updated. We have found out that this can only be done with custom lines of code via a workflow. As I am not a Hubspot coding expert, I wonder if anyone has overcome this challenge and could share their findings.

PS: I know that Associ8 exists to do this very easily, but we want to stay away from having too many pin-point solutions.

Hey @CarlosvBoekhold you don't need custom coded workflows for this anymore! There's now a "remove association label" action in workflows so you can enroll anyone based on the criteria you need and remove their associations to the company on. Once you've set an association label on them previously you can remove the association based on this label:

You will need to have set an association label for these first, but you can also just set this through a workflow earlier if you wish.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your reply! How would you suggest to approach this?

I assume we would have to identify the contacts that need to get their current job updated first, then set a specific association label of choice (perhaps automatically if through Apollo we can put them in some sort of list and use list membership in Hubspot as a trigger), then as a final step, run the workflow like the image you sent in your response.

That's how it sounds theoretically possible in my head, let me know what you think 😄

Hey @CarlosvBoekhold apologies, I understood from your initial question that you wanted to remove the association between a contact to a company, just to confirm now are you not trying to do this, but trying to add a custom association label between a contact and a company?

If you want to filter by contacts only associated as a primary contact I'd probably try something like this:

I'm interested in this as well, I will dig into it. It should be possible to add some custom property in HubSpot and map it with some Apollo information regarding the automated job chance enrichment, and based on this property, to trigger the workflow that removes the association of the non-primary company. I'll test things out and report back here with findings.
