Is two way sync possible using a custom object with hubspot and salesforce? We are planning to send information from a custom object in salesforce to hubspot and once that info hits hubspot, the user then fills out additional info in hubspot which then hits the custom object in salesforce.

Thanks for your question. The Knowledge Base article only shows the ability for a one-way sync. However, in this thread, @karstenkoehler highlights a public beta that will help you achieve a two-way sync. Check out the screenshot in that comment to find out how to enroll your account in the beta.

I am excited about the public beta for the two-way sync, as it presents a valuable opportunity to enhance our integration between HubSpot and Salesforce.

As someone with a strong background in HubSpot, I am interested in learning what strategies others are utilizing to establish effective sync rules. Specifically, what best practices can be implemented to ensure data integrity throughout this process, particularly when dealing with custom objects? I would appreciate any insights from the community as I continue to refine our approach.

I look forward to your responses!

You’re exploring this right as the feature matures. HubSpot’s bidirectional custom object sync for Salesforce has moved past early beta and is becoming much more stable for production environments in 2025.

Once you join the beta, you’ll find that sync rules now let you control field-level directionality so a field can be read-only from Salesforce, writable from HubSpot, or fully two-way (https://knowledge.hubspot.com/salesforce/set-up-and-use-salesforce-custom-object-sync )

One thing to watch is conflict resolution. HubSpot uses a “last modified wins” rule by default, which can cause data drift if both systems update the same record type at different times.

You’ll want to define ownership logic clearly, HubSpot can push enrichment fields (like user-input attributes) back to Salesforce, while Salesforce remains the master for IDs, lookups, and related objects. More here: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/integrations/manage-your-salesforce-integration-data-sync-settings.

If your setup involves complex dependencies or additional systems beyond these two, layering a real-time sync like Stacksync can preserve referential integrity across all objects without losing those user updates in either direction.
