      <title>How to keep track of conversions/contacts that call via Google Ads, within Hubspot? (#adcalls)</title>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;One of my clients is receiving most of their leads via clients that make a call after clicking on a google ad -via the call extension-.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Currently these contacts are being copied into Hubspot by sales via the Gmail integration. This causes 80% of lead inflow being labeled as "offline source". However, at least 50% of these leads should be labeled "Paid".&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Is there a way to track the lead source of these leads in a better and smart way?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;(software used to track our calls is Adcalls)&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;/P&gt;</description>

However, the contacts that make a direct call via Google Ads call extension and enter our Hubspot system at a later point aren't tracked...&lt;/P&gt;</description>

&lt;P class="lia-align-justify"&gt;After investigating I want to provide you with some information regarding HubSpot's ability to track phone calls made through your "call tracking" on Google Ads.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class="lia-align-justify"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class="lia-align-justify"&gt;HubSpot primarily tracks ads using the parameters that are automatically added to the URL when a contact clicks on an ad. However, certain requirements need to be met for us to track these ads. You can find more details about these requirements here:&amp;nbsp;&lt;A href="https://knowledge.hubspot.com/ads/track-and-report-on-google-ads-in-hubspot#requirements-for-tracking-google-ads" target="_blank" rel="noopener"&gt;Requirements for tracking Google Ads.&lt;/A&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P class="lia-align-justify"&gt;Unfortunately, phone calls do not allow HubSpot to track the ad click using these parameters. As a result, we are unable to track these calls within our system.&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>&lt;P&gt;That’s a very common and frustrating issue when trying to connect paid ad performance to CRM data.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The good news is there are several ways to solve this, and since you’re already using a call tracking software (AdCalls) you have a head start.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The issue you’re facing is that the call is happening outside of the traditional website conversion flow, and when your sales team manually inputs the data, all the valuable source information is lost.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The fact that 80% of your inflow is "offline source" confirms that.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The ideal solution you're looking for involves setting up an automated feedback loop between AdCalls and HubSpot, while ensuring you retain the original Google Ads information.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;This is where a combination of tools becomes necessary.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;The solution should use the HubSpot API to create the contact or conversion event directly, the AdCalls API to extract the call data, the Google Ads API for the most granular click data, and the Google Analytics Data API to maintain a single source of truth for all conversion tracking.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;You'll need an intermediary platform to stitch these together, and a service like Stape or Google Cloud Platform is excellent for this.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Here’s why this architecture is a good solution: When a user clicks your Google Ad, they are assigned a unique identifier by Google Ads, most commonly the &lt;EM&gt;GCLID&lt;/EM&gt; (Google Click ID).&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Your call tracking software, AdCalls, is already set up to capture this &lt;EM&gt;GCLID&lt;/EM&gt; and associate it with the phone call.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;When the call is completed, AdCalls uses its API to send a 'Call Complete' event.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;This event contains the caller's phone number, the duration, and most importantly, the associated &lt;EM&gt;GCLID&lt;/EM&gt;.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;This is the key piece of information needed to attribute the lead correctly.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;You can set up a server-side environment using Stape or Google Cloud Platform to receive this 'Call Complete' data via a webhook from AdCalls.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;This server environment then uses the HubSpot API to check if the phone number already exists as a contact.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;If not, it creates a new contact and importantly, sets the source property using the &lt;EM&gt;GCLID&lt;/EM&gt;.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;HubSpot's smart tracking capabilities will then automatically use the &lt;EM&gt;GCLID&lt;/EM&gt; to look up the original ad click and correctly label the contact as "Paid Search" and provide the campaign, ad group, and keyword details.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Additionally, you can then use the Google Ads API and Google Analytics Data API to send back a server-side conversion event like &lt;EM&gt;phone_call_lead&lt;/EM&gt; or &lt;EM&gt;conversion&lt;/EM&gt; to both platforms.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;This closes the loop entirely, ensuring Google Ads gets the accurate conversion data it needs for bidding optimization, and Google Analytics gets the complete conversion picture.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Using Google Tag Manager (GTM) can help manage the initial deployment of the tracking script that captures the &lt;EM&gt;GCLID&lt;/EM&gt; on your website before the call happens, making the whole process more robust.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;This automated method eliminates manual data entry, ensures correct attribution (labeling 50%+ as "Paid"), and gives your sales team contacts with accurate lead history from day one.&lt;/P&gt;</description>
