Amplitude Integration

Has anyone had any luck using the Amplitude integration? I am looking to automatically trigger emails in Hubspot based upon new users who signup and take a particular action (via events captured in Amplitude).

I've followed the setup guide here and I have created a test cohort in Amplitude that includes 6 users. However, after syncing this cohort with Hubspot, I can see that the cohort is creating correctly in Hubspot under Contacts>Lists *but* it doesn't have any users (ie, size column is zero).

Any idea what I could be doing wrong?

@jmeade full transparency - I have not used this integration.

However, a lot of integrations work similarly. So here's my attempt to help. Is the integration setting up new lists with new contacts only? For instance, if you have contacts in Amplitude already, maybe it's not set up to push them into HubSpot, but only pushes new folks after the integration is on?

Or I've seen it where you'll have a list made and it says zero for a time, but there are actually contacts on it and it just takes time to refresh and show up?

Or perhaps there's a list but no filters on it. For instance, the list may exist, but you have to go in and ensure it's an active list, and the filter criteria are set to "Amplitude event XYZ is attended event."

Hopefully something in there helps spur an idea.

Thanks for taking a look, Dan. Very much appreciated.

According to the docs, the integration works by defining cohorts of users in Amplitude then syncing them Hubspot as a list of contacts. You can trigger the sync hourly/daily or immediately with the push of a button.

I've created the cohort in Amplitude and it (now) has 7 users. However, when I sync the cohort to Hubspot, I can see that a list is properly created but doesn't have any users. Here's what that looks like:

To answer your questions:

I've tried to define the cohort *then* sign up new test users that fit the cohort's criteria to see if new users (vs pre-existing) would get synced. They did not.
I've allowed for a lot of time (days, at this point) and still no contacts display in the Hubspot lists.
This integration auto-creates the "Static" lists only on Hubspot. It doesn't let me configure/change this.

Any other ideas? Again, I really appreciate the help in any case!

Hmmm... I wonder if there's something in the Amplitude side that needs to be turned on to push into the static list? I know in HubSpot, the only way to add contacts to a static list is via a workflow (or manually). You don't set the criteria and let it just run.

So I might see if the Amplitude creatirs have any insight into whether something isn't turned on, or if it takes an extra step not laid out.

You didn't choose Contact ID as a mapping option, did you?

Also, are you aware of this note? If you are choosing emails, I think it needs an email. Do they have one?

@KMurota yes that's a true fact, an API can do something like that. I'm a little lost though on your context and why you tagged me there. Is there an API function that's related to this integration you're thinking of? Something I missed there in the Amplitude integration?

Doesn't mean that much I just pointed it out

coz community is about sharing knowledge.
Integrations are all about API there is no other way for an app to create and add to a list so I couldn't understand why there was a mention of workflow, to be honest. Had an impression that you didn't know about it.

Actually API can create a workflow and enroll a contact to it, too, so technically API might not be the only way for an app to add a contact to a list.

I'm trying this integration, too. I assume I need to pass one of the unique IDs that Hubspot requires to match Amplitude data to Hubspot. Hubspot gives you three choices:

Object ID
Email Address
User Token

We don't send email address to Amplitude, so that is not an option for us. Plus, matching on email address in Hubspot causes issues when your users can change their email addresses, like ours can.

Object ID is an option. We would use Contact ID. We store the Contact ID in our database upon creating a new Contact in Hubspot. So we could pass it to Amplitude and use it to align data between Amplitude and Hubspot.

I don't much about the User Token at all. Is that a reliable way to match records up? How does Amplitude know what the User Token is? Or would I need to also pull that into my database and then send it to Amplitude? If someone is blocking cookies, I assume this wouldn't work. Therefore this doesn't seem like a very reliable way to align data in two systems. Anyone have any experience with this?
