@krob A unique email address is required in HubSpot but not in salesforce. There are a few things you can do to fix this issue moving forward. First I’d recommend adding the requirement to the salesforce duplication rules for leads in contacts that the email Hass to be unique. If you’re unable to do this or enforce this role internally, I would use selective sync between HubSpot and Salesforce. So, with selective sync you would make email addresses that are set as role-based or invalid emails as invisible to the HubSpot and Salesforce integration so these contacts are not made in HubSpot. Then, once the contact is updated with an accurate email address, they’ll sync through to HubSpot. Finally, if you're consistently seeing dirty data in the email field, I'd recommend removing this as a required field in Salesforce as no email is better than a fake or inaccurate email. And, Salesforce leads/contacts won't sync to HubSpot without an email—which solves that problem!

Hope this helps!

Hello,

Our HubSpot is integrated with Salesforce, and uses SF as the source of truth. People are entering salesforce with fake emails (me@me.com. none@none.com, etc.) and getting imported to HS. The #1 person to enter HS with the fake email is associated with their respective deal. However, every contact with an identical fake email an associated deal that enters SF after #1, merges into #1's contact record, and therefore their deal is associated with contact #1. Because of this, we have contacts in HS with 20+ deals that are not actually their deal. What makes matters worse is that the #1 contact will sometime update their email to a valid email. In this case, they are able to receive marketing emails for associated HS deals that are not their actual deal.

How can we keep salesforce or HubSpot from validating these emails?

Hello @KRobinson2, thank you for providing this information. Since the email address is an important property to sync/merge I would recommend checking in Salesforce as a way to block fake emails from entering. ( Similar to this knowledge base here)

The first and best place to check for this would be the 'Associations History' on the contact record. Using this you can drill down into the deal associations and double-check when/how each was made.

I would like to invite our top experts @noahmckeon @TBadehi @MandyDROS any recommendations to @KRobinson2?
