Adding Facebook Commenters as Contacts

Hello HubSpot Hive!

We get loads of engagements on our Facebook posts, and we'd love to create contacts in HubSpot for the FB users who comment on and share our FB posts. Is there a way to do this?

(We'd love to start doing this with folks who engage with our Instagram and Twitter posts, too…)

@jgw-llc. Interesting thought. My initial concern about adding them to Hubspot is that they didn't give permission for you to do that. So privacy laws may be something to consider there. I would not recommend scraping people off social media or utilizing any tool that thinks they can do it for you. It isn't very ethical in my opinion.

However, if you have that great of interactions, I would highly suggest posting a few times a month inviting your audience to register for your newsletter or get some other content from your website that requires them to fill out a Hubspot Form and put themselves in your account. Create a way for them to opt-in and give you their information. This is the positive and creative side of marketing: finding a new way to engage wtih your audience that creates a desired outcome.

I completely agree with @Crystal_Hopper. Scraping people from socila and adding them to your CRM without their consent is not good practise. Insted, you should focus on tqrgeting them with conversion focused posts to encourage them to volunteer their email.

Creating a great social content strategy would allow you to leverage these social interactions to get more leads.

You both raise great points!

We certainly don't intend to use scraping or abuse data! We were thinking more of using their Facebook IDs as contacts to build lists for future conversion opportunities. For instance, once they engage with our content, we could use HubSpot lists to advertise for lead generation.

Also, we are an advocacy nonprofit that seeks to partly measure our work through the number of people who engage with our content. We can see in aggregate how many people are engaging with our Facebook page through Meta's analytics, but we think it is more meaningful to know who these people are as individuals, and watch in HubSpot as we move them up the ladder of engagement.
