Hi everyone,

I’m Jordan, CEO of Caribbean Nest, a Caribbean-focused travel content platform. We publish in-depth destination guides, cultural insights, and travel law information for islands like Aruba and the Bahamas.

I’m currently looking to improve our organic growth strategy using HubSpot — specifically around topic clusters, internal linking, and pillar page structure for travel SEO.

For those managing content-heavy websites:

How do you structure pillar pages vs. blog posts inside HubSpot?

Do you recommend building multiple micro-clusters per destination?

What reporting metrics inside HubSpot are most reliable for tracking topical authority growth?

I’d appreciate any strategic advice, especially from those who have scaled niche travel or location-based content sites using HubSpot.

Thank you!

Hi @JCollinsCN,

"Aruba Travel Guide" becomes your main pillar page, and all supporting content (things to do, laws, costs, itineraries, etc.) lives as separate blog posts. Every blog post should link back to the main destination pillar.

I would go with micro-clusters per destination you can naturally build clusters around:

Things to do

Travel requirements / laws

Cost / budgeting

Itineraries

For tracking, HubSpot and Search Console are the main tools to use. Check destination page traffic, how supporting posts rank for longer queries, and impressions + clicks per destination.

This will make your pillar pages actually useful on their own.

Hope that helps! 👍
(Taken help from ai)

Hi @JCollinsCN ,

I really like @SanjayKumar's answer and think there are ways to dive even deeper into micro-clusters.

1. Have a main itinerary page, but use separate blogs to further drill this into "Itineraries for families, Itineraries for the Adventurous Traveller", etc. You really want to put yourself in their shoes and do some research on how exactly people are searching for travel destinations, and based on "x" criteria.

2. I like to reverse engineer this process with my clients, so instead of thinking of all the content ideas first, I look at the data to start. SEMRush or other software really helps with this process by understanding what people are searching for. THEN you decide what content to focus on and go from there. You have to meet people where they're at. And please don't use AI to write your content, search engines can tell if it was written by a human or not.

3. For topical authority growth, I would rely on SEO software as its main focus is on this. There are a range of credible companies like SEMrush, but if you want a lower price options like SE Ranking, Ubersuggest, etc., domain authority would be the metric you are looking for. But honestly, there are much better metrics to focus on like #of keywords ranking, %traffic share, organic traffic, CTR.

Hope this helps,

1) Pillar Pages vs. Blog Posts (How to structure)

Pillar page = “destination authority page”
Think: one URL that owns the topic

Example:

/aruba-travel-guide/
Covers overview, best time, regions, costs, legal basics, FAQs

Blog posts = supporting intent pages

/best-time-to-visit-aruba/

/aruba-travel-laws-tourists/

/things-to-do-in-aruba/

Inside HubSpot:

Use the SEO Topic tool to map pillar - subtopics

Keep pillar pages broad + navigational, not keyword-stuffed

Add strong internal linking: every blog - pillar, and pillar → all key blogs

2) Micro-clusters per destination

For travel, this works extremely well.

Instead of one big cluster per destination, break it into intent-based micro clusters:

Example: Aruba

Planning cluster (visa, laws, budget)

Experience cluster (things to do, beaches, culture)

Logistics cluster (transport, itineraries)

Seasonal cluster (best time, weather, events)

Each micro-cluster feeds into the main pillar page.

Why this works:

Matches how users actually search

Helps you dominate long-tail queries

Builds topical depth faster

But avoid over-fragmentation each cluster should still connect to a single authority hub.

3) Internal Linking Strategy

Inside HubSpot, don’t rely only on automated suggestions.

Manually ensure:

Every blog links to 1 pillar + 2–3 related blogs

Use contextual anchors, not generic (“click here”)

Update older blogs when new ones are published

Think of it as a mesh, not a tree

4) HubSpot Metrics That Actually Matter

HubSpot doesn’t directly measure “topical authority,” so you track proxies:

Useful metrics:

Organic sessions per topic cluster

Average position (via Search Console integration)

Content attribution (which blogs assist conversions)

Internal link clicks (behavior flow)

What to watch closely:

Are new blogs ranking faster over time?

Is traffic consolidating around pillar pages?

Are cluster pages supporting conversions?

Authority growth = faster indexing + improved rankings across related terms

HubSpot works best when you:

Build clear pillar - cluster architecture

Focus on intent-driven micro clusters

Treat internal linking as a strategic layer, not an afterthought

If done right, you’ll see:

Faster rankings for new content

Stronger topical authority per destination

Better conversion paths from content - bookings
