We’ve improved SEO for a local automotive service directory (towing & roadside services) using HubSpot without relying heavily on external tools, and a few things really stood out:

1. Topic clusters actually work for local services
We built pillar pages around core services (like towing services) and linked out to clusters such as emergency towing, accident recovery, and city-specific pages (e.g., Sydney). HubSpot’s topic cluster view helped keep everything tightly connected and boosted both local and broader visibility.

2. Optimizing existing pages > creating new ones
HubSpot’s SEO recommendations were great for spotting weak on-page elements—headings, internal links, and missing keyword alignment. Updating existing service and location pages delivered faster results than publishing new blogs.

3. Strong internal linking across blogs and service pages
We intentionally linked blogs → service pages → local pages → lead forms. This improved crawlability and made it clearer to search engines (and users) what our core services were.

4. Measuring what converts, not just traffic
Using HubSpot attribution and traffic reports, we focused on which pages actually generated enquiries and calls—not just visits. This helped us prioritize high-intent local service pages over informational content.

Overall, HubSpot works really well for directories and multi-location automotive services when content, internal linking, and conversion tracking are aligned inside one system.

Hi everyone,

I manage SEO and content strategy for a local service directory in the automotive niche, and we currently use HubSpot for content planning, performance tracking, and inbound optimization. I’m looking to improve organic search performance more strategically using HubSpot’s ecosystem rather than relying only on external SEO tools.

From a HubSpot point of view, what are the most effective ways to:

Use topic clusters and pillar pages to strengthen local and national SEO

Identify content gaps and optimize existing pages using HubSpot SEO recommendations

Align blog content, landing pages, and internal linking to improve crawlability and authority

Measure which content is actually driving qualified traffic and conversions inside HubSpot

If you’ve successfully improved SEO for a directory, marketplace, or multi-location website using HubSpot, I’d love to hear how you approached it and which features made the biggest impact.

Thanks in advance for your insights!

Hey @ahsrankers260

Although there is so much you can do and the scope is limitless with the evolving HubSpot capabilities, here are some suggestions from my side based on the experiences that I've had.

Start by building pillar pages around service × location intent, then use HubSpot’s topic clusters to enforce clean internal linking across blogs, service pages, and city pages.

Use Search Console data inside HubSpot to prioritize optimizing pages already getting impressions instead of creating net-new content.

Measure SEO by qualified actions and conversions, not traffic, using custom events and attribution reports.

Use HubSpot’s reporting to identify which SEO pages actually drive leads and revenue. Double down on patterns that are already working.

Standardize internal links with saved sections so authority flows consistently and orphaned pages don’t creep in.

Here are some suggestions. Would love to discuss it further.

Hi! It sounds like you’ve got a solid setup with HubSpot, and it’s great that you want to leverage it more strategically. From my experience, focusing on topic clusters and pillar pages can really help both local and national SEO, especially for a directory or multi-location site. Structuring your content around central pillars and linking supporting cluster content back to them improves crawlability and establishes authority on key topics.

HubSpot’s SEO recommendations can be really useful for spotting content gaps and optimizing existing pages, but pairing that with internal linking strategies between blogs, landing pages, and service pages ensures search engines see the connections clearly. Tracking performance inside HubSpot is another advantage you can tie traffic not just to page views but to actual conversions, which helps you prioritize which content is delivering real value.

For directories or marketplaces I’ve seen, consistent use of CTAs, optimized meta data, and well-planned internal links within the HubSpot ecosystem tend to have the biggest impact.,Essentially, it’s about using HubSpot to connect content strategically rather than just publishing in isolation.

Great question — HubSpot can be very powerful if used strategically.

Topic Clusters & Pillars
Create a strong national pillar (like “Auto Repair Services”) and build service + location cluster pages under it. Structure content by intent and geography to build authority.

Identify Gaps
Use Search Console data inside HubSpot to find pages with impressions but low CTR. Improve titles, meta descriptions, and expand thin location pages with FAQs and detailed service info.

Strengthen Internal Structure
Align blogs → service pages → location pages clearly. Avoid orphan pages and make sure commercial pages receive internal support from content.

Track Qualified Traffic
Use attribution and lifecycle reports to see which pages generate contacts or MQLs — not just sessions.

For directories, better structure + optimizing high-intent local pages usually delivers the biggest SEO gains.
