Website not being index by Google due to "redirect issue"

Hi, so my website is currently not being indexed by Google due to a redirect issue, GSC is saying that this link "https://www.yourlocalvideographer.com/?hsLang=en" is the issue,

i turned off the Enable Language Specific Redirects swtich, that didnt help,

So i turned on the other switch "Use Prefix In Slug"

maybe that will fix it?

I imagine that the issue is that when Google sees "https://www.yourlocalvideographer.com/?hsLang=en" it redirects to "https://www.yourlocalvideographer.com/"

This has plagued my site for about 10 months now, since starting with HubSpot and even utilizing AI I could not figure it out,

Any tips are appreciated, ty!

I just want to mention that I am not an expert on this matter but I want to share this Google page here with more information about the page Indexing report.

"Page with redirect: This is a non-canonical URL that redirects to another page. As such, this URL will not be indexed. The target URL of the redirect might or might not be indexed, depending on what Google thinks about that target URL."

Hi @CSparacino, if your website is entirely in English, my suggestion would be to remove both options:

1 - turn OFF language specific redirects

2 - turn OFF using the prefix in the URL

You wouldn't need language specific redirects because you don't have pages in other languages that can be detected and redirected to.

Essentially, this is detecting "English" and then redirecting to the URL with the language slug ?hsLang=en

You don't need the prefix in the URL either, since you only have one language, you don't need to show the "en" in the URL directly.

This is typically used for the default language when you have a multi-language site so that there is consistency with the URLs for other languages (perhaps for dynamic pages or other scripts that detect language).

With an all English website, you wouldn't need either and it's simpler that way 🙂

The good news is that I can access your website from both links - so there isn't a negative impact for any of your site visitors.

For Google - how long did you have the switch off before you determined it didn't help? Was your site re-indexed in that time period?

My suggestion would be to turn both off and resubmit your website for indexing in GSC, if the redirect issue remains - DM me and I'd be happy to jump on a zoom to sort it out with you.

hey, so i know this is 4 months later, but i turned both off, and i tried reindexing the site multiple times since then, it fails every time, i cant figure it out,

i tried everything, i deleted whatever was in my robots.txt file and submitted it and it still wont index,

I'm at wits end,

Hi @CSparacino can you share a screenshot of the indexing status in Google Search Console?

It would help to understand what is causing it to fail - usually there is an error code that helps narrow down the issue.

Enabling the "Use Prefix In Slug" switch could potentially resolve the problem, so it's worth a shot. It seems like Google might be getting confused by the redirect from the specific link you mentioned to the main page – that's definitely something to address.If you're still struggling to get to the bottom of it, have you considered trying out CrawlSpider? It's a handy tool that can crawl your site, identify broken links, and even offer automatic suggestions for improvements. It might just uncover something that's been overlooked.

My only thinking is that last year i changed the URL of 30 second free video, to 60 second free video, so i wonder if that broke it?

@CSparacino that would do it - can you check if you have a redirect configured from the 30-second URL to the 60-second?

and also check your sitemap in HubSpot to verify it was updated there as well (should be automatic, just want to double check)

There are many reasons for the creation of 2nd URL and redirecting to that URL, you can simply add the canonical tag for the right URL, this will help google analyzing the page or URL you want to index and rank. I got this issue solved on one of the business regarding cllothing production in los Angeles. So, give this method a try, it will solve your problem.

And here are the soultion methods you can apply to solve only this issue:

Use tools like Screaming Frog or Redirect Path to identify redirect loops.
Check Google Search Console (GSC) for crawl errors related to redirects.
Fix any cyclic redirects by ensuring no page redirects back to itself.
Ensure 301 redirects are used for permanent moves, and 302 redirects for temporary changes.
Verify that redirects are pointing to the correct destination pages and not irrelevant URLs.
Use tools like HTTPStatus.io to identify and fix redirect chains (multiple redirects).
Reduce the number of redirects in a chain to ensure Googlebot reaches the final destination without issues.
Verify that all HTTP to HTTPS redirects are properly set up and consistent.
Check for duplicate versions of pages (e.g., HTTP vs. HTTPS) and set up proper redirects from HTTP to HTTPS.
Ensure canonical tags are correctly set to the final destination URL to avoid conflicts with redirects.

Hello Jennifer,

I've got the same issue going on, but my website has a English (default) and a Dutch version. One page now has 4 versions, for example:

en/energyplanner/wind

nl/energyplanner/wind

en/energyplanner/wind?hsLang=en

nl/energyplanner/wind?hsLang=nl

How can I fix this problem, or can I ignore the hsLang pages in my SEO audit?

I see that you have some pages that are not being indexed by Google due to a language redirect.

I have also not seen a case like this before therefore, I'd also like to invite some of our subject experts to this conversation - @StjepanGrcic @OPerek-Clark and @MarianKaha do you all have any suggestions on this?
