Congrats on starting your e-commerce store and working on your SEO. I totally understand your confusion about keyword targeting for multiple products in the same collection. In general, it's a good idea to have one primary keyword for your collection page, but for individual product pages, you can use variations of that keyword or long-tail keywords that are more specific to that product. It's important to avoid keyword stuffing though, as that can actually hurt your SEO.
Also I also recommend learning more about white label seo. They can help you with keyword research and optimization for your e-commerce store, so you can focus on other aspects of your business. Best of luck with your store.

I have been working on my E-commerce store. I have basic knowledge of SEO. After doing some keyword research for the categories that I have in my store. The niche of my store is clothing. I sell T-shirts there. I have one question now.

I have been told by many people that in blogging SEO, we target only one primary keyword for the blog post. Which I find relevant and logical.

But

In my E-commerce case. We have multiple SKUs and some of them are of the same type. For example, we have a floral T-shirt collection. Now for that, I did keyword research and finalized the keyword I want to rank for. I did the on-page SEO for the collection page. Now I am confused here, like for every SKU or product in the floral T-shirt collection. I have to target a new specific keyword or I can use the keyword I selected for the whole floral t-shirt collection in the products too.

Please let me know about it, as this is the genuine doubt I am having right now. Currently, I am finalizing the keywords for a collection first and then targeting 1 or 2 keywords in every product of that collection. Like if I finalized 6 keywords What I do is, use two in one product 2 in another, and then I just follow this alternatively.

Please let me know your opinion on this one.

Hi @themoonspook,

I know it can be a bit annoying to choose different keyword for each product under the floral tshirt category. Since every product will have similar characteristics, choosing a different keyword may sound unusual.

But I'd still suggest you to go with it. You can add a different keyword for every product because choosing the same keyword for 2 products may cause keyword cannibalization in future. In other words, both pages will rank for the same keyword and start eating each other's traffic.

But you don't need to pick an entire different keyword for every other page.

You can go with something like "black solid floral tshirt" for one product and "blue solid floral tshirt" for the other. Just an example.

Also, I don't think that picking up similar keywords for 2 pages would cause any issues(at least in the beginning). But that's not a recommended practice.

That was my opinion. I hope it will give you some clearance.

Thanks

Thank you for giving your opinion. That is what I thought and will try this way to optimize the collections and products and hope that I would at least get some transactional traffic.

Although, It would be really tough to manage all the keywords for a single collection. For example, in the Floral T-shirts collection, Support if we have 500+ products under it then managing the keyword will be a tough job, but yes I will try this way to optimize my store now.

Hi @themoonspook e-commerce pages can be a challenge for SEO, mostly because they tend to have very little content on the page in terms of word count. As another strategy, I would recommend creating blog posts that allow you to streatch your content "legs". Inside of these posts you could absolutly link specific t-shirt pages so that visitors can then get to the product page.

The search engines face a tough task; based on a few words in a query, sometimes only one, they must return a list of relevant results, order them by measures of importance, and hope that the searcher finds what he is seeking.
