Incorporating Active Lists in a Workflow

How can I include active lists in a workflow? For example, after a form submission, we want the contact added to an ACTIVE list, after 5 days we want them MOVED to one of two lists based on their status. One list is an ACTIVE list and one is a STATIC list. I have the STATIC list added, but it's not letting me incorporate the ACTIVE lists how we want.

Hi @RLynn,

Active lists only populate with contacts based on their active list criteria. It would violate the core principle of how they work if it was possible to add contacts to an active list via workflow.

However, you can work around this by doing the following:

Create another static list
Update the active list with another filter criterion "OR is member of [list created in step 1]"
Update your workflow to add the contact to the list created in step 1

Adding the contact to the static list from step 1 will then also join your active list at the same time.

Alternatively, you could update any custom property in your workflow and have your active list for this property value. This would then also pull in the contact.

Could you elaborate on your specific use case a bit more?

Active list are by definition changing and "living" based on the criteria you have defined in the list filters, so technically speaking you don't need a workflow to add them to an active list but would rather set or change a specific property value, which in turn would be the trigger to be added to or removed from an active list.

In your case you mention "want them MOVED to one of two lists based on their status", so you could do the following:

Have two active lists which filter based on your criteria - no workflow needed
Have two static lists and use a workflow to add them to either based on your criteria

After 5 days we need them REMOVED from the *Lead Generation List *(it's an
active list)

If they did NOT become PAYING member the contact needs to be MOVED to *Future
Lead Gen List* (static list)

If they become a PAYING member, as soon as that *Active* status hits, they
should be REMOVED from* Lead Generation List *and MOVED to *Active
Memberships* (active list)
