A contact would have to open all emails to meet the criteria (AND operator). If you want them to meet the criteria by just opening one, you would have to split them into multiple filter groups, connected by the OR operator.

Hi all -

I have a reintroduction workflow, and at the end, I need contacts to branch to "engaged" or "unengaged" based on whether they click or open any of the emails in the workflow.

Based on the filters and nested filters in my screenshot below, is this accomplishing that?

OR - is this saying that the contact must click or open ALL of the emails in the workflow?

Hi @kylernixon

Plus 1 on @karstenkoehler's suggestion from me. Any particular reason why you are not just checking if a contact still is or isn't on HubSpot's "unengaged list"? It would make the branching logic and filters a lot easier.

Hey Frank - Good question. We set our own engagement rules and have some unique needs compared to the out of the box HubSpot setup. A bit more work obviously, but makes our list cleaner for our purposes.

If there are 3 groups separated by "OR" logic in a branch, are all 3 groups checked at once or are they checked one by one until one of the groups' conditions are met? I.e. if the first group's conditions are met, are the following not checked?

It's done sequential - whatever condition is first met that is the path an object (e.g. contact) takes.

Sometimes that is what you want and sometimes it is not, so depending on what exactly it is your are checking and why this might be exactly what you need to happen, or not.

Of you care to outline your actual use case, I can be more specific.

The "This branch can evaluate multiple values" statement underneath the "Edit action tab" is causing confusion and we are wondering if that means all the groups in this branch will be checked.

Hi @MReif

It is my understanding - but I can not provide actual documentation for this, rather years of first hand experience - that Groups do not matter but the order branches you have.

The whole point of Group 1 OR Group 2 OR Group 3 is to say if any of these are met it equals my first branch criteria, in your case "Opened but didn't click". All will be checked and if any is true HubSpot treats it your "Opened but didn't click" condition is met.
