Hey Everyone!

Was wondering what the best practice was around the following scenario:

I have a LinkedIn native lead gen form collecting names and I'd like to tie the form to a Marketing Campaign (for attribution). I'm not totally sure how to do this, because it looks like I can't force a campagin association via a workflow and I can't tie the form to the campaign, because the form is a LinkedIn form - so Hubspot can't see it.

Anyone else run into this before? If so any ideas on how to associate the 2 together?

Thanks!

HubSpot can’t directly associate LinkedIn native Lead Gen Forms with a campaign the same way it does with HubSpot forms. But there’s a solid workaround that might work.

Create a static list of contacts who submitted that LinkedIn form

Go to your campaign in Marketing > Campaigns, and use “Add assets” > Lists to associate that list with the campaign.

This lets you tie those LinkedIn leads to your campaign for reporting, even though the form is external.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you want help setting up the list filters or verifying the LinkedIn sync. Happy to dig in!

Hi @TLarson3
LinkedIn native forms can’t be directly tied to a HubSpot Campaign like HubSpot forms can. But you can possibly make use of these strategies.

First, make sure your LinkedIn Ads account is connected via HubSpot’s native integration (
Settings > Marketing > Ads
). This will sync all lead gen form submissions automatically into HubSpot as contacts.

From there, you have two options:

UTM tracking – If your LinkedIn form redirects to a thank-you page or any external link, use UTM parameters (like
utm_campaign
) in the URL. HubSpot can capture that in the contact’s original source data for attribution.

Static list workaround – Once the leads sync into HubSpot, create a static list of those contacts (based on the form name or source). Then go to your Marketing Campaign, click “Add Assets > Lists”, and attach that list. This helps attribute those contacts as influenced by the campaign.

Hi @TLarson3 ,

This is a common roadblock. Since LinkedIn native forms aren't hosted in HubSpot, you can’t directly tie them to a HubSpot campaign.

What you can do:

Use a tool like Zapier to auto-assign new LinkedIn leads to a specific campaign in HubSpot.

Or, create a custom property (like “Source Campaign”) and use a workflow to tag contacts when they come in via LinkedIn.

Or, create a static list of contacts who submitted that LinkedIn form. Then go to your campaign in Marketing > Campaigns, and use “Add assets” > Lists to associate that list with the campaign.

Not perfect, but it gets the job done for attribution and reporting.

The short answer is:

You've hit a common limitation where LinkedIn native lead forms can't be directly linked to a HubSpot Campaign ID because HubSpot doesn't host the form itself.

The suggested workarounds - like attaching a static list to the campaign - are good, but the most robust and automated solution is to utilize the HubSpot API in conjunction with the LinkedIn Conversions API.

This lets you bypass the reliance on the native integration's limited functionality and programmatically update the contact's campaign association immediately upon submission, ensuring precise, real-time attribution data.

The long answer is:

The reason you can't force a campaign association via a workflow or directly tie the form is because HubSpot's native campaign association feature is built for HubSpot Forms.

When a contact converts on a native HubSpot form, the platform is automatically aware of which asset (page, email, etc.) the form is on and can assign the corresponding Campaign ID.

Since your lead generation is happening entirely within LinkedIn's environment, HubSpot only receives the contact data after the fact via the native LinkedIn Ads integration sync, which does not pass the specific HubSpot Campaign context.

The suggested workarounds, such as using a static list or relying on UTMs (if you use a thank-you page), are functional but manual or rely on a secondary step.

To achieve a truly automated, set-it-and-forget-it solution, you need to use the HubSpot API and the LinkedIn Conversions API.

Here is how that advanced solution works: You would first use the LinkedIn Conversions API (or a middleware platform like Zapier or a custom webhook) to capture the lead submission event immediately after the form is filled out on LinkedIn.

This event will contain a unique identifier for the user and the specific LinkedIn Campaign ID.

Next, you would use this data to trigger a function (hosted on a server-side environment like Google Cloud Platform or Stape) that communicates with the HubSpot API.

The function would perform two key steps: first, it uses the HubSpot API to search for the newly synced contact record based on the email address.

Second, once the contact is found, the function uses the HubSpot API to update the contact's properties.

This update can include a custom property like "LinkedIn Campaign ID" and, crucially, programmatically associate the contact with the correct HubSpot Campaign by setting the relevant HubSpot internal property value.

This method provides several advantages: it is real-time, ensuring the campaign attribution is logged the instant the lead is created; it is resilient, as it doesn't rely on the user's browser or cookie settings; and it is precise, allowing you to link the specific LinkedIn ad campaign directly to the HubSpot Campaign ID, giving you a complete, granular view of ROI that the native integration can't offer.

This server-side approach is the gold standard for bridging external platforms like LinkedIn to core CRM and attribution systems like HubSpot.

This comment was generated with the assistance of an AI tool, incorporating my expertise in conversion tracking 🙂
