Navigating Content Creation in the World of AI

Hi everyone! I began my career working in the localization sector, which led me to specialize in the fields of marketing and communications. About four years ago, I began working as a copywriter and content creator, and have loved every minute of it.

However, I have recently seen a major decline in calls for content creators and have even lost some long-standing clients who have turned to ChatGPT. Therefore, I am wondering how you all are navigating your careers now faced with AI. How do you stand out from the crowd? What have you done to ensure stability in your career? I'd love to hear your insights and learn from your experiences!

This is a great question and certainly interesting times with the emergence of ChatGPT and other AI options. AI in its current form does still have certain limitations. While it can write basic content, it tends to be riddled with errors on more complex topics, as well as, understanding (and therefore writing for) a specific audience. To set yourself apart, you can consider finding a niche that requires a human touch or more complexity that you can consistently do better than the current AI options.

The AI Invention into the industry is great and is taking over many of
the jobs clients were looking for marketers to do . Everybody now is
onto Chatgpt which makes work easier . push your learning into

This is such a contentious topic at the moment, but I think anyone who sticks their head in the sand and tries to ignore AI will be left behind. We, as content marketers and content creators, have to embrace AI and use to it make us better and more efficient. Personally, I use ChatGPT daily to help me summarise content I'm researching, give me ideas for structuring my content, and even creating first drafts of certain pieces of content.

Importantly, AI can only take you so far, nothing ChatGPT puts out is 'good enough' to be published as it is. Even with really well-crafted prompts, AI will never 100% match your brand personality, lexicon, and tone. The human element is key to refining the content and getting it from 65% to 100%. But having a machine do the first 65% frees the humans up to really focus on doing the other 35% exceptionally.

Those clients that you've 'lost' to AI, will be back when they realised AI can't actually do what a seasoned professional can do – create authentic, original content that speaks directly to their brand style, tone, and customers. As AI is used more and more it will become increasingly recognisable and customers will start to rail against that inauthenticity.

Bring AI into your workflow, but remember it can only take you so far.

I appreciate the honesty and vulnerability here, @Natalie_Worden. We're all talking about it, but not a lot of folks air their worries like you did.

I'm with @BarbaraBD on this. As much as I want to stick my head in the sand and whine about the downfall of quality writing because clients will flock to tools like ChatGPT, therefore dilluting qualiy content in the world, I know I can't do that.

So I'm taking a course on ChatGPT specifically, learning about AI and generative AI, and have joined the HubSpot micro-community on AI called Prompt Practitioners. Ieven joined our "AI Counsel" where I work to help us as a comopany think about it. So I'm trying to actively face this new tool head-on to help me stand out.

I think one way to stand out is to shift a bit from "just" writers to think of ourselves as strategists as well. Anyone can pop a prompt into a tool to get some writing. It might even be fine. But we need that human touch as @MProvostCL mentioned. Humans strategize and think, which AI cannot do.

So my advice (to myself) is to think of ways to add generative AI to other processes that will help me be more efficient, freeing up my time and brain for things like strategy. Then apply that to client work.

And keep educating ourselves for sure!
