Hi, when importing an excel sheet with contact , I get a message that some errors occurred. It seems to me that the csv file containing error messages is not properly formatted. Any tips how to handle this csv file with error messages? It seems columns are messed up / overflow of contents. It's a puzzle and I simply want to know which lines in my input file cause problems..

Updated: it seems that Excel has a problem opening this csv formatted file. If I chose to import it in excel, the lines are not scrambled.

Hi @MvanBruggen,

Under Menu > Contacts > Contacts > Import, you can scroll down to see your past imports. When you hover your mouse over an entry, a More button should appear which lets you download an error file. This file explains what's going on:

You can all errors and their descriptions here: https://knowledge.hubspot.com/crm-setup/troubleshoot-import-errors

Hi, thanks for replying.
Yes I know that, but just that error report is not easily to open in Excel. Columns are tangled. The solution I found is not simply to open the csv in excel, but first start excel and then import the csv. Then the contents are readable.

I'm still a bit disappointed about the import process. E.g.: it's not clear from the contents of the error log:

- which errors caused that the specific line was not imported

- which errors are in fact warnings because the line was imported

- which records of the import file have been imported as new and which as duplicates (overwriting existing content).

Hi @MvanBruggen,

The error file is a csv, you can use the text to columns feature in Excel to make it more easily readable: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/split-text-into-different-columns-with-the-convert-text-to-columns-wizard-30b14928-5550-41f5-97ca-7a3e9c363ed7

Your feedback on the import process makes sense to me. I don't work for HubSpot, you could give this feedback in the HubSpot Ideas section of the community.

The record that caused the error is included in the error file.

Are there specific errors you need help with?

Best regards

Hi @MvanBruggen,

If the original issue was opening the error file in Excel, then I'd recommend this: https://webhelp.optimizely.com/latest/en/campaign/analytics/deep/csv-excel.htm

If you want others, who have the same issue, to find this tip more easily, you can help them by accepting my reply as a solution. I'd appreciate it.

Best regards!
