I am trying to obtain the `workflowId` of a workflow using the /automation/v3/workflows endpoint but it is only returning workflows with a contact object type. How do I get details of a workflow using a custom object

- Are you trying to retrieve a list of all workflows associated with your custom object, or are you looking for details about a specific workflow?

- Are your workflows configured to trigger off custom object events, or are you using enrollment triggers based on related contact/company/deal properties?

- Are you using any specific filters or parameters in your API request to target custom objects?
- Have you tried using any other endpoints, or examined the full API response, to see if any information about custom object workflows is included?

The more info, screenshots (without sensitive/confidential information), and details you can provide, the better the Community can assist.

Also, have you tried with "Automation API | Automation v4 API (BETA)"?

I am trying to enrol in a workflow programatically using the API endpoint /automation/v2/workflows/{workflowId}/enrollments/... and need to get the workflowId from somehwere. It's not visible in the UI.

I was hoping to use https://api.hubapi.com/automation/v3/workflows to get all workflows and then manually identify the one I want by its name. Is there a better way to do this? Can I filter workflows by name? Is the workflowId available elsewhere?

The V4 endoint returns even fewer workflows.

Hi @AndrewGallacher,

You can find the ID of your workflow by following these simple steps:

Open the workflow in the Workflow Editor.
Look at the URL in your browser. The workflow ID appears right after flow/.

Alternatively, you can use the HubSpot API endpoint to retrieve a list of all workflows. In the response, you’ll find both the workflow IDs and their corresponding names.

The id shown in the URL of the UI is not the same as the workflow id I need to enrol in the workflow using the API. So, that doesn't help. Sorry! But thanks for your response.

Ah, I think I see the issue now. You're trying to use the v2 enrollment endpoint:

https://api.hubapi.com/automation/v2/workflows/{workflowId}/enrollments/contacts/{email}

This endpoint is specifically intended for enrolling contacts into contact-based workflows. It can't be used to enroll records into non-contact workflows, which is why this approach doesn't work for your use case.

Regarding the fact that you're only seeing contact-based workflows when calling: https://api.hubapi.com/automation/v3/workflows I assume this is due to the fact that HubSpot wants to ensure backwards compatibility with the v2 endpoints which are only applicable to contact worfklows, so only contact-based workflows are included within the response (not sure if I'm right, just an assumption).

I think you'll need to look for an alternative way to trigger your workflow. Could you share a bit more about your broader goal. What exactly are you trying to achieve? With a clearer picture, I might be able to suggest an alternative approach or workaround.

Thanks again for your response. Here's the scenario I am trying to deal with.

I have a worklfow that uses a webhook to send data to an external system. There was a bug in that system that caused some of these hooks to fail. I have now fixed that bug and wanted to re-enrol all of the failed instances of the workflow. But, I can't do it because it's not a contact-based workflow. It's based on a custom object.

I have now taken a different approach here. I just manually exported all of the data and imported it manually into the external system. So, there is no longer any urgency in finding a solution here.

I have found it useful to be able to enrol in workflows via the API. It would appear that HubSpot don't want to support that any more since the v2 endpoint has the limitation we have already discussed and I can't see any way to do this in the v3 or v4 endpoints.

Hey @AndrewGallacher ,

The /automation/v3/workflows endpoint only returns contact-based workflows. To get workflows for a custom object, use the v4 Automation API with /automation/v4/flows or /automation/v4/flows/{flowId}.

These include all workflow types and show the related object in the objectTypeId field. Make sure your private app has the automation scope and the right custom object read permissions.
