It supports automatic HubSpot backups, including engagements, and lets you restore individual records if needed.

It’s also available on the HubSpot marketplace

Hi,

This kind of question:

I am trying to better understand the concept of Engagements (notes, tasks, email ...) in HubSpot. As far as I know they are objects that exist in HubSpot indepeondently, but they make sense only when they are associated to any object record right?

My concern is what happens to the Contact Engagements after the Contact is deleted? Is it true that the engagements are staying in HubSpot (invisible to users) and can be accessed via API any time?

The use case is as the following:
We need to delete 10 000 contacts from HubSpot and we want to backup this data in order to reimport it in the future. I am thinking of reasonable way to do that without loosing any important data (engagements, attachments, properties etc...)

I am not sure if that makes sense to export all data for engagements or only ID would be enough. If the engagements do not get lost after the associated object is deleted then only ID would be enough, but in case they get deleted as well then we would need to export all data in order to be able to create new engagements and associate them with the Object...

Thanks in advance,

Levon

Hey, @lstepany 👋 Thanks for the interesting question. Based on my read of the documentation, you're better off exporting everything rather than relying on being able to rematch associations with IDs. My suggestion is to use an app test account and run a small test using dummy records. This allows you to test both options, and verify if it works as expected, without disturbing your production portal.

Have fun testing! — Jaycee

Great question, @lstepany

Our team has built a backup app for HubSpot (called Pro Backup) that backs up the relation between contacts, deals, etc. and their engagements. If you a contact, then the related engagements will be restored as well.

Or in your case: If you have deleted a number of contacts, then you would still be able to access the related engagements through the app.

Here's a tutorial video that showcases the restore functionality for contacts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdGwplPajQ4
-
