API Created Quotes and Automated Sales Tax Collection

HubSpot recently released [Public Beta] Automated Sales Tax Collection with Commerce Hub:

In the post it says:
"When the invoice, quote, or subscription is created, sales tax will be automatically calculated and added using the associated Company Address. The tax amount is visible on both the invoice or quote PDF as well as at Checkout."

Does this apply to invoices, quotes, subsbscriptions created via the API?

Hi @HybitHi - My name is Joe and I work on the product team at HubSpot focused on our payments offering as well as our new automated sales tax solution. Currently, we do not have API support on quotes or invoices with automated sales tax but it's something we're considering for our future roadmap.

Could I suggest that you log this as an idea so others can share their input or interest? I'd also appreciate hearing your specific use case if you're willing to share, thanks!

I am building a niche quoting solution from the Commerce Hub. It would be great to leverage the new Automated Sales Tax Collection capability.

If Automated Sales Tax Collection is not in effect for quote invoices, quotes, and subscription created via the API, it raises the barrier for minimum functionality for a minimum viable CPQ app. This is seriously dissuading me from building my original idea because I feel like my users would be hesistant to give up Automated Sales Tax Collection.

@jperro If I create line items for a deal, and then the user adds a quote through Hubspot's native UI, those quotes should have the Automated Sales Tax Collection, right?

@HybitHi yes that's right, if you create a deal with line items via the API and then a user creates a Quote from within HubSpot, that quote be eligible to calculate/use automated sales tax (so long as they're enrolled in the beta and have set up sales tax). You could even draft the quote via the API, but it'd need to be submitted and published from within HubSpot for the tax calculation to process.

@HybitHi And if it helps, there's now another option. There's an app in the HubSpot Marketplace that allows companies to connect their HubSpot account to their Avalara account. It's called 'Sales Tax Powered by AvaTax'.

Depending on the size of the business, some may find leveraging Avalara for tax calculation may be a better fit for their business needs.

I'd be happy to demo it for you to see if this solves the tax issue for the tool you're thinking of building.
