Not seeing associations when retrieving contacts

When I make the following API call, I get properties in the response but no associations.

`https://api.hubspot.com/crm/v3/objects/contacts/{contact_id}`

The API schema suggests that if associations exist, I should also see the associations in the response to this call, but I do not see any associations. However, when I make an API call like

`https://api.hubspot.com/crm/v4/objects/contacts/{contact_id}/associations/leads`, I am able to see a lead association.

What is going on?

@fuzzy_mozzie - I believe you need to ask for the specific associations to be returned from the call for a contact or contacts:

Thanks @SteveHTM, this helped, but I am still not getting the result I expected. In the Hubspot UI, I can see multiple tasks, emails, and notes logged in the activity tab, but when I query `https://api.hubspot.com/crm/v3/objects/contacts/{contact_id}?associations=engagements`, I do not see any engagements. I have also tried `emails` and `tasks` to see if those show up in associations but no such luck. any ideas?

Hmm - I think you may be a little bit challenged by the gap between legacy object relationships and true "associations" as they have come to be defined over the last couple of years in HubSpot. Some of this data model logic seems to me to be a work in process - especially where engagments and files are involved. Others in the community more experienced than I may want to comment on status here.

I would tend to attack this problem by experimenting a bit with test calls to understand what associations really do exist in the schema - using the endpoint:

https://api.hubapi.com/crm/v4/associations/{fromObjectType}/{toObjectType}/labels

or for a specific record:

https://api.hubapi.com/crm/v4/objects/{objectType}/{objectId}/associations/{toObjectType}

I've always gravitated towards the association calls for specific information rather than the overloaded resuklts from a mor egenral object query.
