Visitor Tracking if using Submit API method

Hi Everyone -

We are using the API forms submit method with our custom developed forms in Wordpress (with Hubspot plugin). My question is if submitting user email information this way has the same affect on tracking cookies as when using a Hubspot form directly.

My understandsing is that users are tracked anonymously via a cookie until a Hubspot from with their emial address is submitted. After that the cookie is associated with a Contact, and we can tract the behavior of the Contact.

Does this work the same way if the email is submitted via the API forms submit method via our custom developed forms in Wordpress (with Hubspot plugin activated)?

Hi @StoneCurators ,

The HubSpot tracking script will store a 'hubspotutk' cookie to identify the current visitor, if you pass the cookie in your API call using the 'hutk' param in the 'context' object, you will see all tracking data inside HubSpot.

I'm not sure if that answeresd my question.

If we are using the forms "submit" method with our custom developed forms in Wordpress (with Hubspot plugin) to create a new HS Contact, will submitting user email information this way has the same affect on tracking cookies as when using a Hubspot form directly. In other words, will the anonymously collected cookie data (and past user activity) automatically get asssociated with the newly created "HS Contact" record? Or, do I need to do something additional for that to happen?

Hi @StoneCurators,

If you are using this API to submit the form and include the hutk cookie value, then no, you do not need to do anything else.

If you do not use the API, you could activate 'non-hubspot form tracking', together with the plugin, it should work out of the box.
