&lt;P&gt;Your approach seems correct, on creation/update of a new contact, you can search for similar contacts using search API - &lt;A href="https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api/crm/search" target="_blank" rel="noopener"&gt;https://developers.hubspot.com/docs/api/crm/search&lt;/A&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;And then execute your conditions and update the contact and delete duplicate one, but as you want to keep the recent one as primary you might think of updating the old contact to keep activities and histories alive.&lt;/P&gt;
