&lt;P&gt;This has become a tough one since iOS 15: &lt;A href="https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Email-Marketing-Tool/iOS-15-let-s-talk-about-it/m-p/499877" target="_blank"&gt;https://community.hubspot.com/t5/Email-Marketing-Tool/iOS-15-let-s-talk-about-it/m-p/499877&lt;/A&gt;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Opens are not very reliable anymore, correct, so you would have to move to a stricter metric like clicks. However, not all emails encourage recipients to click so you might be excluding contacts who are interested in your content but simply don't click through.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;If however you have contacts who haven't clicked a link in 1 or 2 years, that could maybe count as activity – or at least warrant a re-engagement email, asking contacts to confirm whether they'd like to subscribe.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;Besides that, you clean up your list and get it closer to an actual delivered count by:&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;UL&gt;
&lt;LI&gt;Removing unsubscribed contacts&lt;/LI&gt;
&lt;LI&gt;Removing hard bounced contacts&lt;/LI&gt;
&lt;/UL&gt;
