Great question! HubSpot's Wordpress plugin and hosting your website on the HubSpot CMS are fundamentally two different things.

The HubSpot plugin for WordPress lets you access your HubSpot account without leaving WordPress, whereas hosting your website in the HubSpot CMS gives you all the power of the HubSpot CMS. Comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges since they accomplish two different purposes.

But if you're curious about the pros and cons of hosting your website on WordPress vs. HubSpot, here are some thoughts:

In my opinion, there are two big reasons someone may choose WordPress over the HubSpot CMS:

Since WordPress has been so popular for so long, there are countless experts out there that can assist with your website. Although the HubSpot CMS is growing in popularity, there aren't as many experts out there as there are with WordPress.

WordPress has a ton of plugins, both free and paid, that can be used to make WordPress do basically whatever you want. The CMS is very customizable, so companies often customize WordPress to meet their specific needs. However, HubSpot CMS doesn't support plugins.

Here's why someone may choose the HubSpot CMS instead of WordPress (spoiler alert: I like the HubSpot CMS way more!):

The HubSpot CMS is intimately connect with HubSpot's other tools, making website reporting absolutely seamless.

Ease of use. WordPress can be notoriously difficult to customize yourself, especially if you don't know how to program. However, the HubSpot CMS has an easy-to-use drag and drop editor built right into it, so people who aren't programmers can make great website pages on their own. Of course, this is possible with WordPress, but you have to purchase premium plugins to add drag and drop functionality.

Security can be a huge problem with WordPress. Since it's so popular, WordPress websites are an easier target for hackers. However, HubSpot takes care of security maintenance, so we don't have to worry about our websites being hacked or attacked.

Finally, HubSpot provides dedicated servers with guaranteed 99.9% up-time, and it's baked into the cost of the CMS. If a website is hosted with WordPress, you would need to purchase dedicated hosting separately, which can be incredibly expensive every year. Add this cost on top of the plugins you purchase or subscribe to, then WordPress can actually become more expensive than the HubSpot CMS, despite WordPress's purportedly "free" price tag.

I hope this helps! There is no wrong choice here, but the HubSpot CMS is the clear winner in my opinion.

If you have any more questions, feel free to shoot me an email at jared@directdevelopment.com

Thanks @Anonymous !

When comparing WordPress and HubSpot, it's essential to consider their unique strengths and intended purposes. WordPress is an open-source content management system (CMS) that offers extensive customization options, making it ideal for users looking to build a highly tailored website or blog. With a vast library of plugins and themes, WordPress provides flexibility for various website types, from simple blogs to complex e-commerce sites. On the other hand, HubSpot is a comprehensive inbound marketing platform that integrates content management with marketing automation tools. It's designed to streamline marketing efforts, offering features like lead generation, analytics, and customer relationship management (CRM) built-in. While WordPress is more suited for those who prioritize design and functionality, HubSpot excels in providing a cohesive marketing strategy, making it an excellent choice for businesses focused on lead nurturing and growth. Ultimately, the choice between WordPress and HubSpot depends on your specific needs, technical expertise, and marketing goals.
