@Tonya1 I completely understand your frustration with the change, the old way of creating the parent/child relationship was very easy to do directly from the sidebar.

The reason for the change is because now you can create company to company associations outside of just parent/child, because of this all associations for companies are created in the same process - by clicking add company and then determining the association.

Some use cases have non-parent/chlid relationships, like partnerships, etc. that can be uniquely defined within the association settings:

This is where you can see and manage associations:

While this doesn't change the fact that it requires extra steps, I hope the additional understanding regarding why it changed helps provide a little context.

As someone who has used HubSpot for the last 7 years, there have been a lot of changes that can sometimes seem illogical because it's not the way I've been used to doing things or it adds extra steps - but for new users that come in and see it this way from the start, it makes perfect sense.

I don't envy the product team having to manage existing users and the ideal user experience to find the best way forward.

Hope this helps!

Parent/ Child Relations

Why the change?

All of a sudden it is not so easy to add a child/parent relation to a company.

It used to be you could go into a company scroll down on the right-hand side to companies, and select add a child/ or parent. Super simple.

It wasn't even clear where to add a child because of the change. I had to call HS. Now you have to scroll to companies, click add, type in the name, click next, select parent or child, click next.

Extra unnecessary steps. You change what doesn't need to be changed, and don't change what needs to be changed like logging incoming new emails from existing contacts.

Illogical!
