Hey @SNordahl, thanks for reaching out! I don't know much about your book/audience/existing database, but I can share some general advice.

If you're starting from scratch, it will take time to generate a healthy, engaged email list/contact database. The goal here is to provide enough value to your target audience that they're willing to opt into communication from you and exchange their personal information for whatever you're offering. You'll see the best results when you're building engagement with contacts who are expecting to hear from you.

However, you will likely encounter sales intelligence platforms, like ZoomInfo, that allow you to pay for contact information. While this is a route you can take, expect to receive spam reports and unsubscribes if you're contacting people who didn't consent to receiving emails from you and have never heard of you before. This is the likely quickest route, but it isn't very sustainable. Unless you're providing incredible, contextual value to the contacts you're sending cold outreach to, you'll see considerable contact churn.

Here are some general approaches to list building that you can consider:

Invite your social followers to join your email list

This can be a direct ask where your CTA is to subscribe to email updates from you

This can also be a content download or VIP list signup (like being the first to read your book or receive teasing content leading up to the release)

Again, you always want to make sure that you're providing value for the user

Run a contest a giveaway

You're not always going to see the highest quality of contacts here since some users will just be trying to win the prize, but you could run a contest or giveaway that requires entry from the user (could also include sharing your post)

Consider what a runner-up or consolation prize looks like. Maybe everyone who enters ends up getting a sneak peek of the book or a discount code

Hope this helps at least get you started!!

My book is about tapping into your intuition. It's educational and comes with an optional workbook to purchase. I think your advice on doing it through social media is great and giving a discount code for opt-in seems the best way to go. I have tried to do a giveaway before with no luck though and I'm not sure of the best way to get interactions on the post.

Hi SNordahl, welcome to the world of email marketing and success in your upcoming book release.

Creating awareness about your book release is very important and making use of an email list is a great idea.

The best way i would suggest for you to get an email list for such a campaign is by:

Getting a Squeeze page that would help showcase your upcoming book release to its visitors and also as well get their emails so we could keep in contact with them and nurture them.

By Leveraging on Social Media Ads and Posts that would redirect them to the Squeeze page and they follow that same process.

I am sure that if these two are done well, you would build a healthy, large and engaging email list for your campaign.

Feel free to ask questions further on this or contact me for more info and guidance.

Best regards,

Paul
