Using Custom Objects as data source for Personalization Token in Templates / Snippets

Hi all,

We have Sales Hub Enterprise and use some Custom Objects.

In my Sales Email Templates, I wish to customize Personalization Tokens with data from these Custom Objects. However, no Custom Objects as Personalization Tokens data source are given / showing up.

While it is possible for Marketing Emails to access Custom Objects as Personalization Tokens data sources, in Templates and / or Snippets this appears not to be the case.

What am I missing? Thank you for anybody who can help me!

Hi @Soenke-DT ,

As you note , this functionality isn't currently available.

You might take a look at this post from 2022. As @Jnix284 mentioned in that post, your best workaround may be to use a workflow to copy the fields you need from the custom object onto the contact or company object for use in your personalization tokens. If the data is updated frequently, make sure that re-enrollment is turned on and that your workflow triggers are eligible to re-enroll. (In most cases, changes a contact worklflow will not re-enroll if the changes are made to another object.)

Hi @trevordjones ,

Thank you for your suggestion and for giving the limitations present, your suggested workaround in the end is workable.

I had to add another data storage layer in form of yet another custom objects as the properties needed are many to many in nature and frequently updated.

I used a WF to check when the respected contact custom fields are filled, then copied the data to the new custom object enirely and emptied the contact customs fields again thereby readying them for the next update.

In the process I learned that the personalization token writes back data to the contact custom field only when this is a text property. A bit unfortunate as I am dealing with numbers so I had to build yet more workarounds for that.

you are not missing anything,

for the moment its just possible to access info of custom objects from Marketing emails

but not yet from sales emails templates and snippets.

For the moment you can try coping the info from one object to the other.

I've posted this as in idea if you want to vote this so that the product team consider it faster
