Send url from hidden field to url through form submit

We are new to HubSpot and are looking to recreate a process we have in place with our old crm. On our website, when a customer wants to download certain product literature, we lead them though a form. The url for the download file is passed into a hidden field name "file" in the form via parameter. When the form is submitted the content of field "file" (which is the url for the download) is passed again and loaded onto either a thank you page or into an email where the customer can now access the file.

I have found that I can easily pass the url into the form like this

hubspotformname/?file=www.downloadfile.pdf

I just can't figure out how to either A. create redirect on submission using that field entry, or B. get the field entry to appear as a link on a thank you page.

I've seen suggestions that it can be done with javascript, but nothing specifically solving my problem.

We have hundreds of items on our website we want to gate and so it is not plausible to create unique forms or workflows for each item. We would be happy if the file could just download immediately, but will be okay with the thank you page solution. Email is our last choice.

I understand that you'd like to either create a redirect on form submission using a field entry, or get the firl entry to appear as a unique link on a "Thank You" page. I'd like to tag in some experts here to see if they have any ideas that may help us achieve either of these goals!

Maybe this could help.

To add a "thank you" with the download link to your HubSpot form, you can either display an inline thank you message directly on the same page or redirect the user to a dedicated thank you page after submission. After creating your form in HubSpot, go to the "Options" tab to choose between these two post-submission actions. For a dedicated thank you page, you'll need to either create a new page within your HubSpot account or select an existing one from the dropdown menu.

Steps to Redirect to a Thank You Page

Log in to your HubSpot account: and navigate to your forms.
Edit: the specific form you want to modify.
Click on the "Options" tab in the form editor.
Under the "Choose between displaying a thank you message or redirecting" section, select "Redirect to another page".
Choose your desired thank you page from the dropdown list.
Click "Update": to save your changes.
Test the form: on your website to ensure the redirect works as expected.

Creating a Dedicated Thank You Page

You can create a dedicated thank you page within your HubSpot account using the website page manager or landing page section.
For continued engagement, you can add additional content and a "mini-landing page" with more offers on your thank you page.
You can clone a pre-existing thank you page and customize the text, images, and other content as needed.

Other Options

Inline Thank You Message:

You can also choose to display a thank you message directly on the same page as the form, rather than redirecting.

Conditional Logic:

In Marketing Hub Professional and Enterprise accounts, you can use conditional logic to redirect users to different thank you pages based on their form responses.

I work with @MBushart. I appreciate your reply!

That solution doesn't really help us as we have TONS of documents we want people to download, so we are trying to avoid having to make a bunch of forms/landing pages.

The way our system works now is:

A user comes to our product page to download a datasheet
They fill out a form that passes the information of which product page they came from. This form has a hidden field titled "SoftwareDownloadURL".
They receive an email with the associated datasheet download link. That link currently looks like this: [first half of the downlaod URL]{$software_download_url_5d728f698fd67}. We figured out that the HubSpot portion would instead look like this: hubspotformname/?file=www.downloadfile.pdf

This system involves some sort of javascript coding to be able to pass that information along to the email. We'd prefer that information to be passed through a thank you page/landing page. With that said, we need some sort of coding that once a user hits submit, a javacript code is fired. In conversations with our onboarding specialist, he mentioned there would also need to be a 2 second redirect to load the correct page.

Do you know how to achieve this?

Hi Romy,

Thanks for taking the time to offer solutions. Unfortunately, we are looking for a solution that simply passes the url from the form field to a thank you page or email without creating a seperate thank you page or workflow for every possible url.

As @SFara responded below we did work with our HubSpot onboarding specialist trying to make this work with out-of-the-box HubSpot functionality and his final advise was that some sort of javascript and redirect delay would be the only way to achieve our goal. I have tried many suggestions to similar issues found on this user forum and have had no success so was hoping someone here could offer suggestions.

Once again, I can successfully poplulate the hidden formfield with the url, but I cannot figure out how to pass that url onto the thank you page. I was hopeful it would be as simple as passing any other form field entry, such as FirstName=Mary on form renders "Thanks for your request, Mary" on a thank you page. In this case it is file={the url for the download} renders "Thanks for your request! Here is your document {the url for the download}"
