Need to disconnect domain name from deleted account

I have seen this same issue posted, but not sure if people have been able to resolve the issue. I deleted my previous Hubspot account without disconnecting my custom domain. Now, I can't connect the custom domain to my new account.

Hi @EDavis77 Great question — and yes, this is a known limitation when a custom domain remains linked to a deleted HubSpot account.

Since custom domains are unique and locked per portal, deleting an account doesn't automatically free up the domain. It stays reserved in HubSpot’s backend and will block you from connecting it to any new portal.

Here’s how to resolve it:

You’ll need to reach out directly to HubSpot Support to request that your domain be disassociated from the deleted account manually.

If you no longer have access to the original account, that’s okay — but Support will typically ask for:

Proof of domain ownership (like a DNS TXT record they’ll provide)
The exact domain name (e.g., yourdomain.com)
Your new HubSpot account ID (where you want the domain connected)

Why this happens:

This is a security measure to prevent domain hijacking, especially in shared hosting or agency environments. But yes, it can be frustrating when you forget to disconnect before deleting.

Next step:

Visit HubSpot Support and open a live chat or ticket with the title:
“Request to release domain from deleted account”
They’ll walk you through the verification process and disconnect it for you.

Hi Iohran, thanks for the reply. I have a free account and therefore cannot submit a ticket to support. I'm only given the option to ask questions in the Hubspot community.
