Hi all,

I’m currently setting up our systems and have run into a critical issue that I believe many Canadian businesses are facing. I was hoping to use HubSpot’s Payments and Stripe integration to manage invoicing, subscriptions, and collect payments automatically from within deals. However, I’ve discovered that HubSpot still doesn’t fully support Canadian sales tax rules—particularly QST and GST, which require line-level tax calculation with two combined taxes and up to 3 decimal precision.

Here’s the workflow I ideally wanted to implement:

Use HubSpot to generate invoices or subscriptions from closed deals

Push those into Stripe to handle payment collection

Have the transaction sync into QuickBooks Online (QBO) with accurate tax breakdowns (QST + GST) at the line item level

Map each product/service to its own revenue account in QBO for proper categorization and reporting

Unfortunately, I’ve hit two major blockers:

HubSpot’s tax engine does not support Canadian dual-tax calculations (i.e., GST 5% + QST 9.975%), nor does it allow enough decimal precision to match Quebec tax requirements.

The Stripe Payment Processing app in HubSpot does not sync cleanly into QBO—especially not with proper tax detail or product/revenue mappings.

As a result, I’m being forced to manage all products, pricing, invoicing, subscriptions, and taxes directly in Stripe instead—making HubSpot’s commerce tools effectively unusable for me in Canada. It also creates significant friction for reporting and revenue recognition, as I lose the ability to keep that workflow tied directly to deals in HubSpot.

Is there any update or roadmap from HubSpot regarding:

Native support for QST and GST (with full decimal support)?

Better synchronization between HubSpot > Stripe > QuickBooks Online (especially for tax mapping and revenue classification)?

It would be a game-changer for Canadian companies if HubSpot could close this gap.

Thanks for considering the needs of your Canadian users. If others are in the same boat, please chime in or upvote!

@andrewamj You’re absolutely right - this GST/QST gap in HubSpot’s native tax handling has been a long-standing pain point for Canadian businesses, especially when you’re trying to maintain a clean HubSpot → Stripe → QuickBooks Online workflow.

I run SyncMatters, and we’ve built an integration specifically to solve this problem:

Dual-Tax Support (GST + QST) with full 3-decimal precision, calculated at the line-item level.

HubSpot → Stripe → QBO Sync with accurate tax breakdowns, correct product/service mappings, and revenue account classification.

Works for invoices, subscriptions, and payments while keeping the process tied to HubSpot deals for reporting and revenue recognition.

This means you can keep HubSpot as the source of truth for quotes, deals, and subscriptions - without having to bypass it for tax or accounting compliance.

If you're open to test-driving it, we’d be happy to show you how it works — no fluff, just real-time data where you need it.

Let me know if you'd like a quick walkthrough! https://syncmatters.com/contact

You’ve outlined this issue very clearly — and you’re absolutely right, this limitation has been a pain point for many Canadian businesses trying to integrate HubSpot’s Payments with Stripe and QuickBooks Online.

Currently, HubSpot Payments and its tax engine are optimized for U.S. tax rules, and as of now, full dual-tax support (GST + QST) with line-level precision and multiple decimals isn’t natively supported. Unfortunately, this does create inconsistencies when syncing to Stripe or QBO, especially for companies operating in provinces like Quebec.

That said, here are a few workarounds you could consider in the meantime:

Manage Tax Logic in Stripe or QBO:
Since Stripe supports compound taxes and fractional percentages, you can handle accurate tax breakdowns there, then sync summarized tax totals back to HubSpot for reporting.

Use Operations Hub Custom Code Actions:
With Operations Hub (Professional or Enterprise), you can build custom workflows to push deals or invoices to Stripe via API, where you control the tax logic more precisely.

Third-Party Integration Tools:
Platforms like Make (Integromat), Zapier, or SyncHub can help bridge the gap between HubSpot, Stripe, and QBO — allowing for line-item mapping, decimal precision, and more granular tax data synchronization.

Submit Product Feedback:
You can upvote or comment on HubSpot’s Ideas Forum here
— the product team actively monitors requests like Canadian tax compliance and integrations with accounting platforms.

At the moment, there’s no public roadmap update on full Canadian tax compliance, but I completely agree this feature would be a huge improvement for users managing QST and GST workflows.

Thanks for raising the topic so clearly — hopefully, this gains more visibility from both HubSpot’s product team and fellow Canadian businesses.
