The CMS for Developers Course will be changing!

What’s happening?

On February 1st 2021 we’ll be removing this course. It will be replaced with a temporary course that includes some of the existing content and some of the content from the CMS themes quickstart lesson. Until the launch of the new certification course in the summer of 2021, there will be no new CMS Developer certifications awarded. We apologize for any inconvenience and recommend brushing up on the interim content and the documentation to be ready for the new certification.

What about existing CMS certifications?

Your current CMS for Developers Certification is still valid for one year from the date you earned it. The new certification will carry the same name even though the exam and practicum will cover a lot of new material. This will give our learners a sizeable window for upskilling before they need to recertify.

Are there academy resources for the new CMS developer content?

In the interim we will be combining the quickstart lesson with some of the current CMS for developers content to help new and existing developers learn all the latest and greatest techniques. This content will cover a majority of the topics that will be covered in the next iteration of the certification course. We will also have suggested exercises that will help you prepare for the next iteration of the CMS for Developers practicum.

All of the high level concepts of the CMS for Developers course will remain the same. The changes to the course and the direction of the CMS are all refinements of the core purpose of the CMS: To maximize the efficacy of developers and content editors. Here are some new things to pay special attention to that will become major aspects of the new certification.
- Drag and drop templates will be deemphasized in favor of coded templates that use drag and drop tags to give editors guided control over layout.
- Patchwork groups of templates will be deemphasized in favor of themes. Themes give developers the ability to approach web assets holistically. This is a deep and powerful topic that will be a cornerstone of the new CMS for Developers content as well as the upcoming practicum.
